About Story Commissions

I've been working through my queue and getting close to wrapping up the last story! This batch has been a lot of fun AND a lot of work, and it's been helping me both grow as a writer and re-evaluate my comms structure and pricing. As I've been working and putting pen to paper, I've been making some decisions about the future of my work, so I have a few updates to share with you all:
—To give myself some time to recharge, work on a few personal projects (both writing and physical crafts-related), and enjoy vacation time, I'm going to be closing shop for the summer, with the plan to reopen around mid-August. I hope this isn't too long of a wait, and I really appreciate your patience as I take the space to refill my batteries! In the meantime, I'm happy to talk through ideas with you and do some brainstorming, but that won't translate to any outlining or story writing until I officially reopen for story commissions. It's possible during the summer I might do a YCH story auction in the meantime, but I'll keep you posted.
—Inflation—we've all felt the hit, and it's no fun, but something I find necessary to do is to raise my prices by a few dollars here and there. Hopefully nothing to break the bank, so to speak, but enough to adjust for what's happening, and hopefully my price increases are reasonable enough that they don't spook you! I'm going to post an updated commission price sheet soon, and these price changes will be effective when I reopen for work (which means for the last stories in my current queue, my original pricing applies to your commissions).
—I'm going to be changing my offerings when I reopen for work. Currently, I offer 3 levels of stories: Flash Fiction (500-1,000 words), Short Story (1,000-8,000 words), and Novella (10,000-50,000). A lot of short stories I've written for both commissions and myself have gone upwards of 10,000 words, some of my more recent flash fictions have trended up to 1,500 words, and I'd like to take a break from longer novellas (which take a ton of time and energy to put together)—for these reasons, when I reopen for work, Flash Fictions will be 500-2,500 words, Short Stories will be limited to 15,000 words, and I will no longer offer Novellas (although this could be subject to change—for instance, I could end up taking on only 1 Novella per commission batch; while that's not something I'm considering at this time, I reserve the right to change my mind in the future).
That's all I wanted to share for now. And I want to give a gigantic THANK YOU to everyone who has commissioned me, considered commissioning me, and read my work! It really means a lot that you enjoy my writing—your faves, positive feedback, helpful critiques, and creepy comments are so inspiring and motivating, and I'm looking forward to producing more in the future!
