Yeah but in the alternative scene he was supposed to have been rejected for combat and when the President asked if anybody had any missiles, He would come over the Radio saying that he had one. And it cuts to him in his Red Biplane with an AiM-9 Sidewinder Duck Taped to the side of his plane.

It would later be changed due to him being sort of suicidal as he was known to be drunk.

So it was changed to him being in an F-18 Hornet and the launching and arming mechanisms would fail on the Missle. So instead he’ll be sacrificing himself to save his children and everyone life.
