Session: Skate Sim

Now I done told you the whites were coming for us.
But in between bouts of pondering just exactly what I'm gonna do about that with as much efficiency as possible, I've been trying out Session, an indie, early-access skate simulation on Steam. Similar to Skater XL, it utilizes the 'both sticks represent both feet' gameplay style and aims to replicate 90's skate-punk culture. While it does contain some tutorial missions and daily/weekly challenges you can do, the primary point of the game is to just, well, skate. Learn the mechanics, wander the huge maps looking for ideal skating spots then try and pull off your best lines. There's no points, no judges, no leaderboards, not even an on-screen indication of what trick you just did, it's all instinct. And as I said, this is a simulation kind of game so it's hard as fuck, and the tricks you do aren't gonna be the ridiculous stunts of the Tony Hawk games. You learn to appreciate more subtle moves and maneuvers and pulling them off as photogenically as possible, all at your own pace, in your own way.
Here's a clip which shows me one-day improvement, a montage of clips taken over the course of yesterday, and the day before, when I first got it. It shows my progression of clumsily trying to boardslide a parking block to confidently flipping in and out of planters and benches. Mind you, almost all of these spots took a few tries to get right. It's a tough game. Nothing is automatic.

Sounds a very satisfying, immersive experience! Something to channel a bit if cathartic focus in to.

No no - would just have not commented if I’d read and though “hmm”. Genuinely sounds a very satisfying affair!
Eh. As much as I enjoy sessions I still think there's a place for arcade-styled, pver the top Tony Hawk esque games to make a comeback. Though I do hope they add more modes to the game, but it's still a fun diversion as is.
