Zangoose hasn't been in a mainline game (not counting BDSP) since Omega Ruby and Alpha sapphire, which was 8 years ago, so 5 games if Sun/Moon, and Ultra Sun/Moon count as separate releases :c
Hmm, the region most be quite far off of the other ones in the Pokémon world. The break from the older Human designs comes off as a hint on that the people on a completely other side of the Pokémon globe's spectrum. That said, while I try to be open to more artistic freedom, I cannot say that I like the Human designs much yet. The professors in particular have a rather non-Pokémon feel to me somehow.
The scene with the four trainers is also rather curious. Are they hinting towards more character customization there? That would be quite nice to finally have though such kids don't look that overly different in terms of the body build at least.
The starters look cute in 3D.
That Pig's name was Lechonk, hehe. That cracked me up for a sec. XD
Hmm, what looks nice so far are the way the characters move in the overworld. Let's hope the game gets even further optimized in that regard of the trainers and Pokémon interacting with the environment. I like that so far there seem to be follow Pokémon from the get-go.
The cover Pokémon look like some big island Reptiles like Monitor Lizards. I like the red with his feather crown quite some. Colors and shapes come together nicely with that one. The purple one is alright giving off a night variant vibe with a bit of electricity bolt flavor added.
Looking forward to when they might show another trailer. Again, not too big on the Human designs yet but the new Pokémon seem alright so far. Rest impressions will come with how the game might perform and what interesting aspects in regard of the other important characters might be.
The region is confirmed to be set in Spain, which is right next to and connected to France, which is where X and Y take place.
Fun fact about Lechonk, Lechon is the Spanish name for a roast pig (the ones on a rotating pole with an apple in it's mouth), and leads people to believe it'll become a fire type when it evolves.
Well, I wonder, did they ever confirm that the regions are all laid out like the real world though? I guess they simply felt like going away from the Sugimori art style for teh Human characters somewhat or leave the designers new freedom. I find it just a bit sad since the older looks were kinda iconic. Will see how much my impression might change over time. After all, the character designs always went ever so slightly different here and there.
Ah, interesting. I admittedly couldn't help but feeling reminded of the ghost pirate captain Lechuck from "Monkey Island" in terms of the name. But also the word "chonky". That's why I found it amusing. X3
While I don't know about the later games I do know that the first four games are laid out like the real world, Kanto is a real region in Japan after all: https://external-preview.redd.it/WjjTX8hasND7_ihEgG2oiTG0tZFleOnCMaTvIHD8rEY.png?auto=webp&s=9fadc8a0f481484c93b0f241cf05fcd9a33d8286
Ah, yes. I knew that in regard of the earlier regions. When gen V came out they suddenly tried to go west and scattered their inspirations from there. But as said, I never read any statement that the regions are meant to 1:1 fit where we have the real world counterpart or not which is why I was pondering about it beforehand.
