So both Final Fantasy XI and Morrowind turned 20 in May

Ain't never met somebody as kupo as me.
I spend like the entire month trying to come up with something smart to say either anniversary but I don't know if I really got much so here's something kinda dumb one day too late instead.
Both games were a substantial part of my formative years but also both games have varying degrees of not holding up particularly well- FFXI was a product of the pre-WoW era where the MMO was mainly about coasting on the novelty of the premise with any attempt at being a good video game being an afterthought at best (but also it has some of the most under-appreciated narratives in FF history hanging out in its various expansion packs), while Morrowind was... well, a Bethesda game, and I still feel like a dupe for ever thinking Bethesda games had any merit.
I wish that Vana'diel had some way of getting some sort of new lease on life, you know? It's so full of cool places and characters and stories... but the actual playing of the video game nigh-impossible to do to someone who wasn't already there back in the 2000's.
Pay me no mind, like I said I tried to think of something smart but nothing came so it had to be something dumb instead.

There’s still a lot of love for the old version of the game around with a various amount of different private servers that span from different eras of the game. People recoded the game from the ground up as really a joint project between a lot of people. So there’s servers like Nasomi, Eden, WingsXI among others that all try to emulate the way the game was from ToAU to WoTG. They all have a decent player base but a lot of them are mostly vets to those eras.
That being said the love for the game is still alive and I’m glad to see people hold it as dear to their heart as I do.
My OC Ahleks is a mithra and that race was sort of the gateway for me getting into nekos. So I guess that game kinda had a bit of an impact on me and my interests.
Happy 20th XI and it brings me joy to know people still care about the game.
The feeling of discovery with a group of people who were almost as clueless as you is something that we won't ever get again, but they'll forever be previous memories. I still peek in on retail from time to time just to bask in the nostalgia rush, but knowing it's still around 20 years later is something that, strangely enough, is really comforting.
