I've got maybe a silly question but does the discounted sketch come with the pledge or is it then something to claim and pay even after the pledge?

The discounted sketch comes with the pledge yeah, but it guarantees a slot every month you're pledged.

Otherwise, uncoloured sketches are $30 and slots open less consistently.

That being said, I suppose there's nothing stopping someone from pledging, accepting the discounted sketch, and canceling their pledge - I get paid up front in either case so I'm not particularly bothered.
