Art Drive/Prize Money Update

General
Well the 2022 SCU art drive has about a month left to go, and I have only received one completed fan fiction story. Which is honestly fairly discouraging. We had a bunch of people say "yes, a new art drive would be great", and yet some of those same people have giving me a "maybe" on whether they would participate or not.
Therefore, if by the deadline of the art drive, I do not have 5 separate submissions by 5 separate people, then I will be withdrawing the prize money winnings. That way there are enough people to judge from to determine a winner. I will not be handing out money to someone who wins by default do to lack of submissions.

Though, I can understand people, I myself always have 1000 ideas, 1000 projects and get almost none done, rl simply takes it toll :(
Someone liked your characters enough to write something about them and whether or not they're the only person who enters, they still deserve some recognition for the effort.
Isn't that the risk you take by running a contest though? Not gonna lie, might just be the wording, but this sounds really scummy.
Much like an artist takes a risk running an auction, a commissioner takes a risk running a contest. You don't get to arbitrarily decide that what's been entered isn't meeting your standards enough to withdraw the prize money the same way an artist doesn't get to cancel an auction because it didn't make enough.
You realise this journal essentially is saying that the one entrant you have so far isn't good enough to warrant a prize right? Someone likes your characters and worldbuilding enough to put time and effort into contributing a piece for it, and you throw it in their face.
Not just that but you're telling anyone that was working on an entry not to bother any more, because what's the point in them putting the time in if there's a high likelihood no prize is happening?
I don't say this to be nasty, but to try and help. I've run contests myself in the past, I've taken big "gambles" putting large $500+ prizes up with no guarantee i'll get even a single entry. You run a contest to build a better relationship with your "community", this journal just tells me you wanted to get a bunch of work for less than it would've cost to commission it.
I hope you change your mind on this, but i feel you may have already killed any goodwill you had with people by considering this.
Good luck with the contest, hope it goes well!
