Questions about Boosty
Hello, my dears!
Hope you have a nice day =)
I found out yesterday that Patreon can become an unreliable helper for me, it has already been blocked, like Twitter, and I can’t get there without vpn service. I'm afraid that the day when the Patreon refuses to work with russian accounts is not very far away. I hope it is only my bad dream and it will never happen :c
I have a preconceived notion on the Boosty service, because of its parent company.
I'm thinking about open Boosty acc for myself in test mode. bc I know several artists who already work via boosty and all is fine.
If you used Boosty as a payment intermediary, tell me about your experience, is it convenient for you? Have you encountered any difficulties when paying through it?
Hope you have a nice day =)

FA+

Also, just as a side note. PayPal can be used to make Boosty payments. HOWEVER, PayPal has its own conversion rates. There have been several occasions where what was supposed to be a $100 commission turned out to be $120 because the artist was using different conversion rates. That's not on them of course, but it's an issue people need to be aware of.
Edit: Therussbuss is definitely right, banks or credit cards might get a little decline-happy when using the service for the first time. I'm unsure how it looks from a seller's end, but make sure your buyers stay on top of that.
Thank you for your input, I'm definitely considering writing an instruction manual.
Not everyone will be interested in doing this :,)
Given the sheer quality and care of what I've seen in your gallery you fit the " I'll save up for something class :) " And if you undercharged, I'd say so even if I couldn't afford it :)
I mean what percentage or amount of commission fee from service is appropriate for you - 5% or 10% or something different?
I'm trying to imagine something in between and find optimal option for everyone. Now I think it might be a good idea to deduct some percentage from the artist's final price to cover commission fee for convertation currency.

I had to use a credit card from my country to get the payment approved, which is not fun considering the convertion rates are not looking good for the currency we use here. I also had to pay more taxes for that.
Sorry you're having to go through this! It sucks for everyone involved.
fix me If I understand something wrong - I guess the payment does not go through and is not debited from your account, right?
Example: I buy a commission for $50. Boosty charges in Rubles, so I have to look up the conversion rate. I go on Google and find that $50 is 3000 Rubles. I pay 3000 Rubles on Boosty using PayPal. Later, I look at my credit card bill and see that PayPal has charged me $70 for the transaction.
Again, this is not Boosty's fault; the extra money goes to PayPal, but it definitely sucks as a buyer, especially because there's no way to see beforehand what conversion rate PayPal is going to use.
This won't stop me from buying art from Russian artists if I really want to, but it definitely makes me more hesitant, and figures into how much I'm going to bid on auctions.
for example, hold about 10% of the amount full price of artist, that covering (in whole or in part)? I mean, of course, the artist's initiative to propose this step. Would that be a soften factor for you as commissioner?
When using Boosty, what would help me is if artists quote their commission prices in rubles instead of dollars, as that is what Boosty uses. So instead of saying "this commission costs $100" and having the commissioner do math on payment, say "this commission costs 6000 RUB (about $100)". This would remove at least one element of uncertainty.
In any case, thanks for your opinion, I will take it into account. The aspect of uncertainty, that you are talking about, is one of the most serious for me, I also love the clarity in all monetary aspects. =)
About Patreon - do you use custom rate for commissioner or something fix rate? Do you have any warnings from Patreon about this?
apologies for the lack of clarity
One thing I will add is Boosty doesn't seem to like payments above 10000 rub. If a client has to pay more than that, I recommend splitting it into a few smaller payments (eg. instead of 15000rub, try 10000 + 5000)
I just use my phone number to sign into it.
What do you think if artist is offering to hold about 10% of the amount full price cost of commission, that covering (in whole or in part) exchange rate fee, that would be a soften factor for you as commissioner?
But there's no option with "Paypal Balance" and only with a bank card (which is linked with my Paypal). I was expected to prefer to pay with Paypal Balance because there's an available amount of $40. I have already set the payment preferences with Paypal Balance on my Paypal Settings.
But sadly when I move into boosty website for ready to pay - there's no option with Paypal Balance, just a bank card
And trying with debit card, it keep getting error messages: sorry we weren't able to authorize your card. please choose another way to pay
But when I need help with my close friend who have paypal to paid on boosty, it's says successful
I'm not sure it's problem on my bank card or something ^^'
Люди платят, вроде всё нормально. Был ФАшный гайд...

Вот! Там про Бусти есть. Думаю там больше сказано, чем я могу поведать)
Yes, I heard about a break up payments too. I must admit Boosty is not a perfect enough service to work with foreign users. it makes me so sad. =\
Need to see all ways to keep my work before to looking for more professions ><
