Suggestions for uploading alts?

Maybe I'm not noticing FA features, but I don't want my Main Gallery to be filled with duplicates when I have alternate versions of a pic LOL
Folders don't seem to keep them out of the Main Gallery, so much as also assign them to the side?
I feel like there ought to be a better way to do this, right...?
