But anyone suggesting that leftwing types looking to avoid the abuse will stage a mass exodus elsewhere is giving these people, and their convictions, far too much credit. For starters, there is not currently a viable alternative. Time and time again, conservatives have tried to make the Twitter of their dreams in the form of Gab, Parler, Truth Social, and whatever else, where you're allowed to say the N-word all you want and they never go anywhere. Now that's partially because conservatives need somebody to abuse in order to be interested and they only had other Nazis on those sites with them who already agreed to kill all the same people. But more than that, people don't change their habits. All the same people who said they were leaving twitter for one of these Klan Apps still maintained a heavy Twitter presence unless they were suspended/banned. People don't change their habits, and you all well know from the...half dozen or so supposed mass exoduses from Furaffinity, people ultimately come back to the established, popular commodity unless a new one legitimately arises. And those Kmart parking lots we call SoFurry and Weaysl and...hell, is Furry Network still around? Well, they'll tell you how it goes.

Additionally, for all of the panic about what might happen - and it's a fair panic as democracies around the world are mostly threatened due to a climate in which the worst people in the world can subscribe to any version of reality they wish thanks to an already unregulated social media world - the Twitter experience won't fundamentally change. What, you're worried that liberals, trans people, black people, gay people, and women will be subject to massive amounts of online bullying and abuse with no apparent interest on the part of Twitter management to stop it?

Gosh, that'd be so different!

So you're talking about people already extremely accustomed to being abused by the animals known as straight while males on a daily, if not hourly basis. A few more slurs isn't gonna be enough to make them change their habits. Again, people don't change.

Now according to texts between Musk and whatever Nazi he's been talking to, early plans were to bring in an onslaught of rightwing users, including Trump, make a Blake Masters-like Nazi in charge of enforcing twitter rules, and systematically deplatform liberal voices. Well, I guess they could do that but it'd be a suicide pill for a site that already barely profits, all things considered. See, if you start doing that, you risk legitimately alienating your leftwing users and the ad revenue they generate. Corporations might be pro-fascist, pretty much invariably, but they know money is a numbers game and there are quite simply viewer conservatives than there are humans. And the reason conservative posts are amplified so much by the algorithms (despite claims of the right being silenced, it's quite the other way around) is due to the hate clicks and outrage clicks from the left. So making Twitter a Whites-Only saloon just has no financial rationalization.

And all of that is part of my earnest belief that decency plays absolutely no role in society. Hatred and fear make money. Decency and compassion do not.

Kindness, itself, will be erased from all public policy across the globe, both privately and in government, over the next several years.

Because even the ones who want it, get bored of it.

Of course you may ask "why does there need to be an alternative? Why can't people just not go on the website which is little else beyond inane arguing, lies and disinformation, and peer-to-peer abuse which has done nothing but weaken our institutions across the globe and make us all dramatically more miserable than we were before it existed?"

So, in a nutshell, that's why there will be no exodus, or at least not until something viable comes along to replace twitter, much as twitter was a kind of de facto replacement for Facebook when that website became what twitter will become under Musk (Which again...will be the same website, only more).

Because the fact is, people...just don't care about...things.
