Art Style
3 years ago
I don't usually post stuff like this but I am legitimately curious about everyone's thoughts;
Over the 12 years, give or take, that I've drawn digitally I've always used SAI/SAI 2 and the same, basic, pen tool for everything - though lately, within the past few months, I've grown very dissatisfied with my art style (my issues with shading notwithstanding.)
So, I am putting serious thought into changing things up a bit, making my art style more how I'd like to see my work - I have some ideas in mind I want to try, some artists I want to study more. While my art style *has* changed the methods are the same and that is making my art stagnant I feel.
But I am curious what everyone thinks :o

I think a big part of my thinking is that, I feel that my art is not conveying what I wish;
I absolutely love the grittiness of art like Sligar, Duase, and Nikolai (over on twitter) especially; so I wanted to experiment with the messiness, thicker lines, harder shading, and i think i should experiment with brushes as well - maybe go back to the basics a bit and refine some of the things I did back in the day such as thicker lines for the outline and a thinner line for details inside
Observe various games, anime and movies to see what kinda lighting would work out
youtube has alot of vids from Jazza that can also help, but one thins is to never give up.
I'm hoping this change in style will actually help convey that more, as like I mentioned to ArtyHarty above, I think the major problem I have is that I feel that my art is not conveying what I wish
