That's what I thought too, but when he says "Mushroom Kingdom, here we come!" he had a bit of a Brooklyn-style accent, so they may be going that direction rather than Italian.

It still kinda just sounds like Chris Pratt sort of putting on a Brooklyn-Italian accent.

I'm not even sure why they're going with this story anyway, "Mario is a plumber from Brooklyn who accidentally isekai'd himself to the Mushroom Kingdom one day" hasn't been his backstory since before the SNES era.

Admittedly yes, it does sound a lot like "just Chris Pratt", but I'll wait until we have more than 2 lines to judge it on.
Having grown up in the era where that was the original Mario origin, I'm surprised they're going back to it, and interested to see how it'll play out.
