Students Seek Sophistication

"Sophisticated students do not exsist" Shawn Caan Principal.
I support him on his statement.
The student is described these days, to be more layed back, attention seeking, alcohol drinking, and drug smoking. Students depend on this for survival apparently. Shocking to some as once a student myself the future was always planned and forced into working for points and the higher side of grades, social life was between bad to non exsistant.
And now with these new crases that sweep the nation, some schools in the world let their students waltz the corridors with mobiles, bleeping, buzzing and spurting random phrases like ( Lol, lmfao, brb etc...)
This is not only a shock to myself but i would certianly think mobile phones should have no place within the concrete walls of the school. Your not going to die without one certianly. It is uncomprehenseable for a 12-15 to even own a mobile, it makes sense that teachers should rehearse and practise what they preach, get rid of the phones from schools all together. Your not going to be that important, even if you try to be. It does not make sense.
Parents set the bar with their children, half the Parents I know give kids blackberrys and I-phones, I certianly cannot figure out some of these items, how the hell is that child going to know what infromedia is and site infroserdure etc.
This is just not in any way exceptable to me. I for one belive it is not even a forseeable site that students will ever grow sophistication, without sophistication from the site of the source, the Parents.
I point my figure at you, kids not only should not own mobiles, but i belive attitude arrises from the mobile invention. Kids raised in circumstances without mobiles tend to get better grades and tend to grasp grammer better than those who live and breed into the LED investation on the phones face. Desperate matters, call for desperate means.
It just does not make sense why parents buy children under the age of 15 mobile phones. They cause more damage neurologically and some kids use them as weapons, which phones these days may be light, but pack a powerful punch, both physically and mentally, children can be text bullied and what not, and it is a fear striking upon the parents.
So why do they insist on buying them, Is it demand? Pressure?Or is it the fact that mobile adds reach out more towards this target market.

Being in constant contact like this is no good for any of us, i really don't need to know when a college is using the restroom, or is staring deeply into his mates eyes. The phrase too much information seems to be a thing of the past, newer generations coming up are always hungry for more and more information. it's rare to see a kid nowadays without cellphone in hand clicking away messages to be posted where anyone can view. I myself am guilty of this, however it's part of my job to network with people, but even still there are times where i cringe and go "i really didn't need to know that".
While i'm all for the advancement of technology, i personally feel that the world is changing into a place where one day you will no longer have to meet with people face to face ever, you can just stay inside, where its safe and everything will be taken care of for you. This is not something i want, so every once in a while in the morning when I pocket my cell phone, pack up my laptop, pop my ipod into my car stereo, and turn on my GPS unit i stop everything and realize how surrounded we've become. So while i drive to school, or work or wherever im going, i shut down all my electronics and plan a trip for the weekend. Whenever i feel overloaded by technology, i grab some friends and we go to the beach, or hike up a canyon, or camp out somewhere, we do whatever we can to cut ourselves off from the modern world and enjoy life in it's simplest form, even if it's just for 2 days every few months or so. I'm rambling now but thats my two cents on the subject hahah
I however, seem to be the exception to the rule, ive been a major techie since i was about 8 years old, i'm a serious gamer-geek and ive had a mobile phone since 12. I spend a lot of my time online, on MSN etc. talking with all these acronyms and abbreviations. I am the personifacation of the 'web 2.0' generation.
And yet, i have to my credit a 10 honor Junior Certificate, all on higher-level subjects, with 7 of those being A grades.
Because i struck a balance between my education and my technological passion,
To me, i dont see the harm in having a mobile to be honest, but, i do believe that if a young person has a mobile, it should fall to the Parents to moderate its useage, and also encourage the more important aspects of socialising and education.
Yes i do also believe that mobiles should be banned from school, mine enforces a stirict no-phones rule. Unless for someone like myself who, suffering from a medical condition, may need to contact someone quickly in case of emergency.
Because i was 'cyberbullied' over the mobile, i agree that it can be a very powerful weapon, as can the internet in that respect.
But then again, both these mediums have been a godsend for me, as i suffer from general Social Anxiety Syndrome, face to face interaction can be a major fear at times for me. Sometimes my mobile and the internet are the only social outlets i have.
In my honest opinion, a balance needs to be struck by the parents between the technology their children use, and the time they spend on more prouctive activities.
Well, now that ive had my little rant over this, and i hope it doesn't sound like i was talking out my rear-end so to speak, i shall return to the realm of teh interwebz.
