A small victory but a victory none less.

For those who are unaware, Brazilian presidential election was just decided and Bolsonaro was defeated, which is amazing! the tears of his goons are flooding the streets, the loud and most ignorant members of my family are in shambles and praying for a military coup ,the same people who were so loud about preserving democracy and freedom are now asking for a dictatorship...as I predicted. :U
But I cannot lie, this was scary, Lula won by a very little margin, way smaller than the first turn and that's very sus, I heard rumors that the federal police was blocking roads in the north to prevent voters to reach the ballots but I cant confirm it, maybe bolsominions went really hard this time in the hopes to save their fash daddy, or Lula suporters slacked a little because the higher chance of victory, I don't know. I hope this serve as example for you people of other countries, even if the progressive candidates are predicted to win handly, GO AND VOTE! don't slack, if they are predicted to win with 70% of the votes make them win by 90%! specially you people from United States, political decisions there impact heavily on countries like mine, and what we conquer in years here may be undone in one day by an reckless american president.
Things are not set in stone yet, but a relieving notice came out soon as the ballots closed, Biden gave his bless to Lula, which may seem like a void political formality but it has a massive weight, the approval from the USA president reduces the chances of a right wing military coup here (last time it happened here it was because of america wanted it) Lula is known for opposing United States in several levels (he directly defied Obama in his last mandate ) but I'm hoping this time he plays nice this time...and if not I just hope he stays quiet about the war in Ukraine.
Will he be an ally for lgbtq people? I'm not betting my money on that, Brazil is still a very conservative christian country and supporting queer people here is not a very popular choice, specially trans people, I will not be surprised if he throws us under the bus when push comes to shove, but still I very much prefer Lula's apathy than Bolsonaro's open hostility, also, many governors and new deputies are loud and proud bolsonarist worms and they will for sure do whatever they can to fuck with us, like the republicans are doing to trans rights in United States...in summary my hopes are not high.
but still, today is a day to celebrate our victory, I thank to all brazilians who went to the street today and put the big 13 on the ballot, tonight we do like mister Bonner and we crack open the latão! XD

But, yeah, with what you're saying, there's a good chance you guys will have your own J6. Hopefully it won't happen, or if it does it will falter like J6 itself did. But I'm not in Brazil and so don't know what you do, so I won't hold my breath on anything.
And thanks for reminding me of the international stakes my country has. I'm an anarchist who votes mostly if not entirely to delay the Republicans. even thou I know full well the Democrats are utterly spineless, they're still miles better than the GOP's current fashy direction, and having as many Dems as possible in positions of power not only prevent the Republicans from doing what they want but also makes it that much harder for the elephant to play his obstructionist games. But us Americans have such knock-on effects on everyone else; I'm familiar with Salazar's military dictatorship in Brazil, and I never shut up about the 1973 Chilean coup that ousted the (democratically elected) socialist President Salvador Allende and replaced him with that hard-right laissez-faire goon Pinochet. And how Reagan back the contras in Nicaragua and "conveniently" looked the other way if not encouraged them to engage in human rights violations just as bad as if not worse than the ones the Sandanistas were doing that he used to rationalize his support. And the larger Operation Condor. And that's just some of Latin America. Don't get me wrong: both parties suck; the Dems just suck less. Biden supporting Lula is a good sign, but Biden's still a neoliberal, so nothing's in stone over here either.
But for the time being, things are looking up in the lungs of the world.
I never thought I'd have to be opposing fascism here, yet here we are. Our work is cut out for us. All power to the people everywhere!
Here's hoping Bolsonaro goes quietly and Brazil can begin to move forward again.
And yeah, we've got extremely crucial elections coming up here too. Everybody get out and vote, and make sure your friends do too! It's never been more important.
But even if he stays silent for the next years his stench will still lingers, his cultists will keep being a massive nuisance, they may not have the courage to go on the street and kick a single trashcan, but they surely will cause harm to anyone they can, specially in their workplace, and as a good example of that, last night I discovered there is a list being shared among bolsominions of my city, they are creating a black list with the name of leftist professionals and business owners to target.
I'm pretty sure even in the best case scenario Bolsonaro will keep using social media to rally and radicalize his followers, and with the new management on twitter, I highly doubt he will be stopped, in anyway now is a matter of time, and also the result of the next USA presidential election, if Trump returns Bolsonaro will be massively emboldened.
There's also that there are still so many people of his party in power there. It sounds a lot like the Republicans here, who pretty much just block any Democratic legislation out of hand, as well as the continued power and influence of the Trumpists in spreading fear, lies, and hate more broadly, and trying to rig the electoral system in their favor.
This coming election here really is crucial. If the Republicans gain control of the House or Senate we could be in serious trouble. It's REALLY close right now, and could still go either way, which is pretty amazing, considering just how awful the Republicans continue to prove themselves to be day by day.
I don't think Trump has a chance in '24. He's less popular than he's ever been in spite of how rabid many of his boot-lickers are. There are also the multiple legal cases against him at this point, some of which may still result in barring him from being able to run for office.
But of course that doesn't keep any of his younger, smarter acolytes from running then, and that could be even more dangerous in some ways. We're in for a real ride and a struggle here for some years to come.
he didn't openly accepted the results, almost cried, blamed the left and ragequited 2 minutes later, but one of his goons took the microphone and declared they will cooperate.
I think he will wait for January first to start spilling conspirative theories about the election.
And there's that little problem with the truckers there...
It was such a close election, and he has so many rabid supporters. Reminds me more than a little of the Republicans and far right here. These are some scary times.
I never thought I'd see anything like this here in my life, bad as it's been at some points. The Republicans have really had a way of making each subsequent president even worse than the previous one. When I was a kid we had Nixon, and we thought he was awful. In comparison he doesn't seem nearly so bad now...
But it's not really working on their favor, regular people are not happy, and in some places they are even fighting and dispersing the bolsominions themselves! not just that but other police forces aren't being friendly to rioters, they are going in and bashing the minions, I'm actually surprised to be honest.
I can say the same here at some extent, as far as I can remember from last elections there always was the super crazy candidates like Levi Fidelis that literally said on national tv that gays are sick should be taken to concentration camps, but all these guys barely had more than 1% of the votes,Bolsonaro is the one that broke the standards.
The more crazy right wing extremists here are a definite minority, but they're noisy and dangerous, and are even getting support by some of the Republicans, and most of the Republicans are at least tacitly supporting them by not explicitly opposing them.
In short, I hope that Lula in his new mandate will do and improve the things that Bolsonaro never did. Congratulations from the neighboring country of Venezuela, Brazilian brother!
I hope it too! o/
Will definitely be trying to vote myself, though I may not be able to get my senate vote in since I'm on vacation out of state. Hoping Don Bacon doesn't win... Nothing about that man strikes me as honest.
