We're a two party system, and generally adding anything else will make peoples' heads explode, so it's not recommended. As it is, having two seems to confuse some folks; "OhmyGod, you mean you can think another way?! That's messed up!" This is probably the entire reason why the USA is the way it is nowadays, the public insists on only two standpoints, and whichever side of the issue you're on, there's no doubt the other side is completely and utterly wrong, no matter the issue.

Since you've got a more progressive standpoint, you'd probably fall into the "Political Left" in general society. Doesn't mean you agree with everyone over there -- as it's been said, a liberal (person on "the left") is a man too broad-minded to take his own side in a quarrel -- but it's probably how you'd be classified.

Exactly my point. I am not a psudo-communist liberal, a hippie, or a welfare case. I believe the founding fathers got it right but we've fucked up the system. I'm close to being republican but I'm atheist, say minimum wage needs to be set to about $9 and raised regularly as inflation increases, support labor unions, and propose a 10% income tax with no deductions.

Also I've thought about creating a static system of law. The laws would be decided at founding and not changed. The corruption in out government is in the legislative branch, congressmen getting bribed by lobbyists to make unfair laws. It would also make it easy for normal people to learn the law, eliminating the need for lawyers.

If scientists ever discover a little red planet inhabited by people that have come up with a well-functioning communistic social system, I'll build myself a rocket and fly there. Then I'll spend the rest of my days cultivating space mushrooms and drawing idealistic illustrations for the common good.

Nah, communism works when everyone belongs to the same class. It won't grant us immortality, though, so we'll still need a place to dump the bodies. Robots would be neat, though.

The problem is that not everyone is equal. Some are stronger, others smarter, some lead, others follow. It is not human nature but nature in general.

In communism people are just part of a machine. Nothing exists without purpose. A world without luxuries. No music, movies, games, or art of any kind.

There are needs that could be provided. Education, health care, security, basic food and shelter. People should compete for luxuries. They need a reason to better themselves.

Are you saying that the only way people can strive for better is by being motivated by all the nice things they can get for themselves? How materialistic! Certainly not all people are like that. =)

My vision of the perfect communism is very different from the one you seem to be thinking of. The world would be different, but by no means would it lack music, entertainment or happiness. What kind of a human society would lack art? Even prehistoric people had their cave paintings. There's plenty of communist art to go around, and some of it is quite famous.

Of course people need education, health care and good times, but modern people surround themselves with so much rubbish they don't really need. In a different world our values would be different and our life might be simpler, more ecological and peaceful. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the red planet.

People don't really need anything. Even survival is a want. The problem in modern society is that big business bend and break the laws to feed the machine. Capitalism only works when properly moderated by law. It is not a form of government, otherwise it would just be called fascism.

The real trick is to balance socialist, democratic, and anarchic ideas.

Hmmm. Sounds like a challenge. But I'm pretty happy as long as people are still interested in what goes around them and what kind of values are inherent in their society. =)

There are so many people these days who don't bother to vote or even leave their house to see what happens outside. Especially young people should be more active, because they're going to have to live in the future that is being built today. =/

Most people in the US don't understand how voting works. They think the electoral college is a degree granting institute. If people knew what I took to get on the ballot they would be outraged.
