a quick rant to get off my chest
i typed this in a comment to someone, but honestly i feel like this deserves its own post because i don't want younger, more vulnerable artists to make the same mistakes i have
i was just recently part of a pretty large fetish community and took TONS of commissions of it, and within the last month, i rebranded to get away from it and start anew completely sfw. the complete disrespect for boundaries, casual sexual harassment that's so completely normalized i've become desensitized to shit that everyone else i've shared it with has said is creepy and unacceptable, and the sheer selfish entitlement of these people to just ask whatever artist they come across (even underage ones) for whack-off material is absolutely infuriating and a massive part of what made me quit drawing nsfw/kink for public consumption, even though taking commissions for it made me a ton of money. it was destroying my mental health, and while yeah, i'm probably not going to be as profitable as before, i feel so much better knowing that i no longer have to put up with that toxic environment and disgusting behavior.
do not ever be afraid to set hard boundaries - that's INCREDIBLY important for young artists, especially in this day in age. remember that the block button is there for you to use as liberally as you want - if anyone comes to you and makes you uncomfortable, you don't have to put up with it. block whoever you want, make your spaces safe for you.
don't ever let anyone pressure you into what to draw. you do what makes YOU feel fulfilled. if other people like it that's just a neat bonus. stick to your guns and never ever let anyone ever tell you you're a prude or no fun for not drawing what THEY want. fuck them. do you art for YOU. there's endless amounts of porn and weird fetish shit online, they won't die if they don't get it from you specifically.
and if kink and porn is what you like drawing? awesome! go hogwild! fucking slay! but if it's not, don't feel pressured to just because people ask you nicely. you have every right to tell ANYONE no, for whatever reason. period. keep strong and stand up for yourself no matter what, or people WILL take advantage of your willingness to please and run you completely ragged trying to make everyone happy. do what makes you happy first and foremost, and anyone who says otherwise can fuck right off forever. ❤️
ALSO! if you get mad at this journal or feel called out, you're probably exactly the kind of person i'm talking about, so if this makes you feel attacked, please take some time to self-reflect on why 😌

FA+

i also 100% don't blame you. honestly, it ain't anyone's business what you yank it to. that's between you and the lord and i reaaaaaally don't wanna hear ppl's fantasies (especially if they involve me/my characters) just because we happen to get our rocks off to the same shit 😒
thank you though, it helps to know that not EVERYONE who knew me under my old handle wants just fetish porn, restores some faith in humanity tbh
Too often, this sort of stuff is like a drug, and hardened addcts don't take well to being told 'NO!'.
DO NOT LET THEM HARASS YOU INTO SOMETHING YOU'RE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH.
Good advice.
If you're adventurous, if nobody is getting hurt, no harm in trying, right?
If it's not your thing, say so and don't be pushed into it. 'No' does not mean, "well, actually yes, but only if you treat me like I'm sub-sentient".
Anyone doing that sort of trash deserves to be publicly shamed... but that's just my grouchy, bitter old opinion.
Sadly, yes, sex sells, so income is liable to take a hit.
Stay strong.
I'm glad I came across your new account, I absolutely LOVE your art style and it's always a treat to see! You rock, and I'm so glad you made it out of the hell.
when most people i knew from those circles dropped me like a rock the moment i stopped being able to supply them with porn, it hurt a lot, but also just confirmed the entitlement and toxicity that i needed to get away from. i've taken a big financial hit, but i feel so much better, and that's what matters overall.
Hopefully you're able to get more commissioners, your art is fantastic and you have reasonable prices!
