Photo meme thing

Something is wrong if I browse the submissions and I see more ugly faces than dog people fucking each other.
Can this meme end now please? I am feeling significantly less inclined to hang out with new people at cons than I did before.

but my point is, you shouldn't bash on what the majority of the fandom is. For one, it's not nice and makes said people loose even more of their self-esteem, and two it's just bad karma =/
Self-esteem is a ranging emotion/feeling. You're in control of it. If these people don't like the way they act or look then it is completely within their power to change whatever it is about themselves that's bothering them. While I'm no expert or PT I'm more than happy to help or give advice to people who want to change, I respect people for that. It's the people that complain about things that they are in control of but do nothing about. And I'm supposed to have sympathy for that?
And as for karma, I'm not singling anybody out. I'm speaking in broad terms about what I personally find attractive or not. Holding and sharing an opinion is not bad karma when it's not specifically targeted at anyone.
"because they don't care what others think"
Awesome, so they don't care that Uro may,
or may not, think they're ugly.
What was your point again? :D
Do you need help understanding anything else in English because that message should've been pretty clear =( sorry no one taught you how to comprehend =(
Is misleading someone to think they are gorgeous only to be shot down by others for being unattractive the nice thing to do? Or is telling them the truth in a caring way to avoid an identity crisis better? I for one give honest opinions and if people can't handle it then it's no skin off my teeth.
If they don't care what others think then there is no reason for them to write emo sadface journals about how they have no friends, or they can't find a 'mate', ect. People DO care what others think it's a universal feeling, no one can honestly say that they have absolutely no regard for what others think. If there was no such thing as public opinion what would stop people from walking around naked, having sex in a playground, participating in illegal deviant behaviors? Oh, it's because people DO care about how others think of, and perceive them. You're talking about a utopia that doesn't exist.
And sure there are nice ways to put things, I would have worded it differently if that was my intent. I'm not singling anyone out so I don't see why I would need to dumb things down for people and spoon feed them.
As for disabilities, their decision for posting it and they know what they are by default and what they are putting themselves up against. x) Furry standards aren't even that low in itself. Some are, but not enough to call home about. xD
Going to be at mff btw?
Genetics: Not everyone can be as perfect as you and uro, this being because they don't get to choose who spawns them.
Early Upbringing: This is where just about everyone gains a conscious about themselves because they get picked on FOR trying to be like everyone else. There's nothing to learn about who you are that you don't already know, it's what other people say about you that you learn about and sadly that's what most people think matter. This early stage of life is why most people become shut-ins and socially inept; it can't be helped especially if they're given a lot of shit while growing up.
Also, the reason most people don't try is because they lack reasons TO try; i.e RL friends, etc. And they know doing it to impress people over the internet is stupid, so why bother?
Lastly, they post about their disabilities so that they're friends know as much about them as possible and maybe to get it off their chests. It shouldn't be held against them by any means.
Early Upbringing: Many furries have trouble fitting into regular social circles for a variety of reasons. The fandom gives them (and all of us) a chance to fit in via our fantasy characters. This can be very healthy and provides a safe place to be ourselves. But, again, we we start to substitute the fantasy for real life, then we become stunted. Furries as a whole (and I know this is a generalization) have problems with a immature social abilities. We're all so used to it in the fandom that it's a joke that isn't even funny now. But it is a real problem. Uro's complaint was broad and unfocused. He didn't pick on anyone specifically and he didn't track an awkward furry down in the hallway just to throw a slushie on him or her. I'm not sure who you're defending, but I don't see that he hurt anyone beyond a general complaint about yet another annoying band-wagon meme.
The only reason the furries are trying this (I assume you mean putting photos up) now is that it's a meme. It isn't about them being brave and learning to become more social in real life, it's just a meme. Furries (and whatever other geek group you want to point out) love memes. It's another way of trying to feel like you belong with a bunch of strangers by aping their actions.
I'm missing where disabilities plays into this. Uro didn't say anything about disabilities and the meme is just about photos. It's not about posting about your disability. I don't see where that became an issue until you brought it up.
Also, I'm not defending anyone in particular, and I realized right away that he wsn't attacking any one or few persons but the fact is what he said was demeaning. *shrugs*
Lastly (no i'm not going to continue commenting on what this whole thing was based off as it's obviously a waste), yes, it is just a meme. So I don't see why Uro and a bunch of other people are getting so buttraped about it. OMG FA IS MYSPACE NAO!! BAW BAW BAW UGLY PPLZ.
It'll stop in like 2 days people grow up. Also, this site HAS been like every other social networking site from the beginning. Apparently most people don't see it, but there is a tab under submission type labeled 'HUMAN' which is meant for an array of things, including pictures of ones self. That's the reason I called him out on this; because he has no sense of knowledge on this.
I fucking love Glee. And thank you for putting things into perspective.
There are a lot of people who can only blame themselves based on lack of initiative and action. A lot of people who make up excuses for themselves in order to continue their very very very simplified life that happens to be only more complex due to their lack of responsibility and choice. It's nearly like the fact there are a lot of lazy people who don't raise their kids and do a lot of irresponsible things and never gain any standards or goals in their life. I personally know this because I have siblings that have a lot going for them, yet they still gladly mess around and mess up their lives, even morals, ethics, and standards while knowing them enough.
A lot of them furries aren't THAT unfortunate by genetics and I didn't mention anything about perfection, hence speaking about how average is nice. I could add slightly below average is decent too. x) It's not hard to comb your hair, have better hygiene, and clothes don't get that expensive. As for the social shut-ins, like I said. I have their sympathy to them. :3 Even so, only they can do something about that, good luck to that and hope they have good support around them.
As for dressing better n' all. Doesn't take much to do so, let alone have personal tastes. They can ask people to dress their fursona whatever way they like, yet they can't with them self. For probably just $5 or less if they looked. It's immediately easy to tell between having no personal preferences and actually having them, as it is even a healthy thing to personalize yourself in some way or form. It definitely has nothing to do with trying to be like everybody else, but if it is to them they need to look outside for once or watch TV maybe. Even so, that goes back to social shut-ins who are still figuring themselves out and lacking the ability to think critically for themselves for once or even figure out what they actually prefer or like. Still, it doesn't take much to actually value themselves enough to try and at least bathe and wear deodorant. Right now in society, it's either they weren't raised or they were too pampered by parents that can be afraid of bringing kids out to the 'dangerous' world, which can be dangerous but people gotta learn. As far as egos go, some can have way too much, thinking what little they have can offer so much more than people who try and put effort into things, but then don't realize what damage it just brings down all by itself with the ego/pride included, which is another side of the wall in social shut-ins.
For people who get out of the hole of being a total shut-in, they can't really help those who are in that hole, because it would just bring them down. :/ Shut-ins usually expect and want more when they are given kindness and compassion, resulting in more problems. Basically speaking, Shut-ins are often on their own in tackling such hardships in their life, can only hope to help enough or see them dig them self out. :3
I give the fandom a lot more credit than that n' all, but that could be based on what I see at fur cons versus people sitting on their computer chair. Although, most reasons behind posting these images usually are simple things like "oh i want to be flirted with" or "oh I want ego." Then on the other hand, some are just for the heck of it. I just scanned through most of these pictures, I did not see one based on 'bad genetics'. Although, you could bring up lack of self confidence to beat that argument. *face palms* x3 Also, the majority of these photos isn't of ugly people as it is mostly of average or above. The ugly ones just being an apathetic face or an apathetic amount of choices for them self. lol
About the disabilities, they can share through IM or email or whatever site they have. They are far from afraid to show you too. lol I've had random disabled people message me and say odd things and immediately show me a picture that would scar me for life. Dude, not even I have the indecency to show off that shit! This is a public site, different story all together. Even so, common sense doesn't always exist. So you can say that lol.
lol
You die.
As for dressing better n' all. Doesn't take much to do so, let alone have personal tastes. They can ask people to dress their fursona whatever way they like, yet they can't with them self.
I agree with this wholeheartedly. I've seen people at cons walking around with pizza stains from their dinner last night all over their shirts and smelling up an entire room because they don't have the self respect to clean themselves or to at least change outfits. It's horrible.
I used to be a shut in when I was your age and I couldn't even socialize.
I would have never even been able to tell from hanging out with ya at this past AC. Kudos for being a prime example of what people can do if they have the ambition to do something about their lives :D I'm also hardly 'perfect' lol (though I do appreciate the compliment ^^) Just ask neokai about how much I complain about myself haha. You probably have the clearest complexion I've seen ;.;
This just makes it worse >.>
You take showers which is more than I can say for half of the photomeme people.
And yeah, I have to agree with people's shower situation. XD
People just need to stop being sheep sometimes :)
dude, thats lame
However, some people that clearly don't take care of themselves I have no desire to be around. Mainly because that demonstrates that...
1. They have no regard for their appearance and don't have much self respect. Identity is, in part how other people perceive you so it IS important despite what people say.
2. They may not take showers or bathe regularly and thus smell.
3. Unhealthy and bad personal habits.
4. Lack goals or ambitions.
5. Disregard for yourself is a symptom of MANY bad mental disorders, including suicide and I do not want to be dragged down by that. I have had people threaten to hurt themselves if I didn't talk to them and I do not like being in a parasitic relationship like that.
All in all, I really don't care how you look as long as you are well-kempt, clean, like to party, and can hold a decent conversation. People mistake my judgments against people that complain about things and yet do nothing to change, people that have no personal/social regard and have social habits akin to a public masturbator to someone who may not have supermodel looks.
2. agree
3. agree
4. if it is constant
5. agree
so the most of it is repulsive, i agree. noone wants to hang out with a smelly dirty person that has no reagrd for himself (not talking about shy!) however how can you know something like that from a photo and be sure of it? the smell? habits? goals? ambitions? disorders? even self respect? well you don't. you can have a stereotype based on the persons looks and thats all. being "ugly" does not mean someone has serious problems you mentioned and vice versa.
and as i recall you said there are loads of ugly people here and you are not so inclined to meet new people. so there you go, you don't like ugly people to hang out with you. and thats on what i replied, there were no problems involved, just the looks.
and i don't want to get all dramatical here and i rather have fun and enjoy the site. however i know that you should give everyone the chance to meet them properly.
i think you agree with that
And as they say, a picture speaks a thousand words. The ones in question speak to me words like awkward, unkempt, dirty, weird, ect. And as I mentioned those are the people I do not associate with. Had they taken the time to wash their face, blow their nose, pop that zit, put on a T shirt that would say self-respect, dignity, normal, not a mouth breather. I am perfectly inclined to meet people, just not those with the latter attributes.
The meme was cute for a day but now it's out of hand.
And to the guy who got his panties in a bunch about Uro expressing his opinions (yeah you, with the butt fuck icon...that's reaaally mature), you did nothing but make yourself look like a jerk. He never said (insert name here) is ugly, he never insulted or belittled someone in particular. Stereotypes are there for a reason, and instead of laughing about it or maybe you know...helping some of these people in need, you decide to make an e-scene. Have you ever been to a furry con? I've haven't seen so many overweight people in one place since I visited Disney World. You then preceded to call him out on his own journal and then criticize him about his own appearance...which is exactly what the OP was doing in the first place. Way to go, here's a gold star.
I realize it's harmless, but again...in moderation.
My inbox was not full of photos like everyone else's seemed to be.
I kind of like knowing who's behind the art I like, makes FA feel a bit more like a community when we know each other.
It's fun to see who is behind the art, but lately there's been a lot more myspace photos than art in my inbox. This thing caught on like wildfire lol.
At least the draw your true figure one was artistic and fun to see.
:D
