Softening the Spirit! 2

The moment Kylie looked into Katniss' eyes, she knew she was in trouble. There was something about the way Katniss was looking at her that made Kylie feel like she was being hunted. She tried to look away, but she couldn't. It was as if Katniss' eyes were hypnotizing her. She could feel her heart racing and her palms sweating. She was frozen in place, incapable of moving or looking away. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Kylie was able to break the spell that Katniss had over her.
Yet, Kylie knew she messed up and no words were needed. The broken glass on the floor, with the milk, spilled everywhere, the eerie silence, and the shaking Kylie was all that was needed to tell the story with no words involved. Katniss tapped her foot angrily on the floor in front of Kylie "you can't ever go one day without disappointing me, can you?" Katniss said harshly staring down her nose at Kylie. Katniss pulled out the controller to Kylie's chip and looked at her. "Because I don't want to deal with blood too I suggest you move away from the glass," Katniss said... slightly gently.
Kylie backed away from the broken glass and sat on her knees and lowered her head... knowing fully what was coming next. The world seemed to stop when Kylie heard the chime of the chip go off, her ears began ringing, her thoughts vanished, and a second later felt the soul-shattering shock that always followed. Kylie fell over and tears fell from her eyes. After a few seconds, the shock stopped and Kylie rose back to her feet. She looked at Katniss in hope of a little bit of sympathy but didn't receive any... just another cold stare from the harsh owner. "I-i-im sorry ma'am," Kylie said keeping her head bowed. For once Kylie knew she was wrong, she had been in a hurry and only used one hand to steady the tray.
Katniss was stunned to see Kylie almost crying. Kylie was shuddering and trying to formulate the right words. For a split second, Katniss felt pity for Kylie... but it quickly vanished when the milk hit her heels. "UGH... great now these will have stains on them!" Katniss hissed. Katniss stormed forward and forced Kylie to her feet "you BETTER have this cleaned up before I get back or you'll sleep in the basement for the next WEEK". Katniss stormed off mumbling something about it's hard to find good help these days. Kylie instantly grabbed a towel and began wiping up the spilled milk, and ironically crying over it. Kylie accidentally grabbed a shard and it cut her so she let out a sharp yelp. A fear settled over Kylie that wasn't easily dealt with, she rushed and tried to get everything done as quickly as she could.
In her rush, Kylie slipped and hit her head causing her to cry more. But she hurried to her feet. She picked up the last piece of glass as Katniss came back in barefoot. Katniss looked over the scene. "you did a fairly good job Kylie" she said looking slightly impressed "in such a hurry too". Katniss walked closer to Kylie and held Kylie's head in her hands "oh... you are bleeding girl" Katniss said finding the spot where Kylie had hit her head. Kylie took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down. She knew she had to face her fears head-on. She had to be brave. Kylie could do this. Kylie was scared. Nothing had ever made her feel this way before. She was shaking, and she felt like she was going to vomit. She was sure that she was going to die.
But now, looking at Kylie, Katniss couldn't help but feel a twinge of sympathy. Kylie had been through so much in her short life. She had lost her parents, her home, and her way of life. And now, she was living in a world that was foreign. Katniss knew that there was nothing she could do to take away Kylie's pain. But she vowed, secretly, to protect her... even though it didn't look like it right now. Katniss looked at Kylie "you do know that I have your best interest in mind?" she asked. Kylie looked up slightly "yes ma'am," she said with a slight sparkle in her eyes.
Katniss rubbed Kylie's head a little bit. "It may not look like it right now but I'm trying to train you and give you an AMAZING life". Katniss sighed as she locked eyes with Kylie and kept the gaze for a minute "but you have to submit and accept this new life" Katniss moved her hand to the back of Kylie's head and scritched her ears "can you do that for me?". Kylie slightly smiled and took a deep breath "yes ma'am". Katniss smiled "good girl" she replied as she moved her hand and grabbed Kylies hand "lets get your head patched up".
