Because a lot of artists are just clout-chasers. Only care about you if you give them money.

Not all artists are assholes like that, but, I can safely say most are.

it sucks so much tho? What happened to making friends online? Just because u have 1000 followers on twitter does that magically make you asocial? I dont get it, i dont think i will ever stop appreciating DMs from people, even if by some chance i ever do grow....

I mean, some people let it get to their head I'd imagine. Others are just so full of themselves about it. Who knows? I unfortunately cannot read minds and decipher thoughts of others.

I used to have one "popular" artist friend but she stopped talking to me, i really miss having good artists as friends because i have nobody to ask for tips or advice ;(

I used to be popular when I was a kid on deviantart xD had tons of followers and faves...but I still talked to anyone and everyone who was nice to me.

On the flipside to the commenter below, I can understand why some of the more popular artists dont wanna interact with random ppl much, bc Ive experienced certain things. There are far too many fake ppl out there, who will befriend a popular artist JUST for free art, free views, etc. It can be rlly tough, cuz you have to curate and figure out whose true and whose not.

Its not ALWAYS because theyre mean or only care about views xD thats kinda not fair to say about anyone. There are a lot of factors to consider...and also some ppl are just more interpersonal...they cherish what few, true friends they have and are happy with that and arent seeking out or ready to seek out new friendships. And thats their right. Not everyone has to be friends with you xD or will want to.

Just keep bein yourself, and dont be a try hard who only wants to be friends with someone bc theyre popular or "good" at art...thats weird. Also art is SO subjective that its up to YOU what YOU consider to be good art...popularity has nothing to do with that either. I know plenty of really amazing good artists who are barely known who interact with ppl and prolly wouldnt mind giving tips or whatever. You just have to be more open to finding them...and not focus on smth meaningless like numbers/views.

The right ppl will come to you...and also cherish what you have, dont get greedy and keep wanting more xD even if its only 1 person who talks to you, thats still amazing and awesome and should be cherished dearly.

I can safely say most artists are not assholes, that's just really mean and a gross generalization. As someone that has to deal with some amount of popularity on other sites, talking to everyone that wants to talk is just not always possible due to not having time for everyone. Popular artists tend to get many conversation requests, imagine having about 1000+ followers and just 3% would like to converse, that's at least 30 conversations they would have to keep up and keep track of and that number is being generous. So it can get pretty difficult, especially for introverts who aren't accustomed to a lot of people wanting to talk to them, resulting in the artist having to pick and choose who to talk to unfortunately.

But i mean, literally every artist i try to reach out to just tells me they dont want to talk, im like seriously?

Personally for me it’s not that I’m antisocial but I’m introverted, have ADHD and extreme anxiety so I find it really hard to hold/start conversations, it’s why I like to try and comment on art and like it a lot so people know I’m thinking about them even if I struggle socially

I have to say though despite my mental health ( as well as severe chronic illnesses) I do try to communicate with other artists, so I do think others could make a little more effort
