"Magazine" projects?

Occasionally I will see one or a few pics with a central theme for some project that different people have contributed to, and distributed as a free PDF.
I would like to submit pics as well but I never hear of anything until after the projects are finished. Does anyone know which folks organize them, deadlines, and all that sort?

Why not start your own? You've done a few magazine cover pics in the past, flesh some of those ideas out(no pun intended) maybe?
