Being a fatfur writer...

... is extremely difficult. Although I'm extremely happy with the audience I have, it doesn't feel like enough since I can't get enough work to start saving anything. I'd love to keep doing this full time, but it's clearly not a stable thing.
Now, obviously I'm not gonna stop. I just sorta felt like spewing out my thoughts on this because it's been weighing on me for months at this point. It's been pent up and just needed a bit of an outlet.
Anyways, sad rant done, I hope you all have a good rest of your day/night.

FA+

And I do plan on continuing, even though it’s tough. It’s what I love to do, so I’d rather keep at it, even if it comes in different forms x3
First I want to say, you are under valuing yourself and should legit raise your prices.
I charge:
100 words: 2-5$
1 page: 10-25$
Character creation: 20-30$ (sometimes more for complexity)
myself. and hell, I'll be raising those prices soon; and I still get coms perfectly fine
You've fallen into the writer commissioner hole of focusing too hard on 100 words and charging by that, if you want to sustain yourself with writing, you need those prices up or else you'll find yourself working far below the minimal wage thresh hold ;3;
please, raise your prices, and you should see an immediate improvement on things
In terms of broadening my horizons, I definitely wouldn't mind attempting to get into different fetish scenes to write for. I'm already thinking of changing my "do and do not" lists to include fanfic writing (I always feel awkward about writing about copywrite characters, but I can suck it up), and I could include sex in there as well (not on the list for the same reason). I think the bigger issue for that would be to try and make my way into those spaces, though it's definitely hard for me to reach out to other people and to try and interact. Still, it's a lot to think about, and I'll absolutely keep a lot of this in mind~
how I gauge how many pages I'll be writing:
so when a client comes to me to tell me what they want, I break it down into a crude outline, then I make main focus points that'll end up being paragraphs that tie the page together as filler between the crude outline; example
Customer wants
-happy pikachu
-pikachu gets fat
-pikachu falls asleep happily in bed
What I'll do is talk to them about things to give it a good flow and it'll come down to something like
-start story around a happy pikachu
-pikachu gets hungry
--pikachu hasn't eaten throughout the day
-Pikachu goes to a resteraunt to get food
-orders an extra fattenning burger
-Pikachu begins to eat and over indulge
-Slowly add more weight as they eat
-some plot point about being even hungrier
-expands fully and finishes eating their food
-Pikachu finds difficulty squeezing out the door but manages to do so
-Walking scene with body shaking and bouncing
-Pikachu gets home, good big stretch
-Goes right to bed and falls asleep.
At that point, I generally have an idea of how many paragraphs are going to be in the story. I take all my previous stories and find that I have a general average of around 4-5.5ish paragraphs per page outside of dialogue. So every 5 notches in the outline is thus a page. I count up how many pages it'll be, and decide a total based around who they are, what they're asking for, if I can upload the story anywhere or not, and how comfortable I am with the story; increasing and or decreasing the value as it comes. I've found this method to be generally accurate aside from around .5-1 full pages as of late with commissions.
Broadening horizons: those two things are definitely good things to open up your audience a bit more, as you'll find many furs just like a good vanilla sex scene. it's...different from fetish focusing writing, but if you can find what tickles the general public, you'll make it far. as for copyrighted characters, this can be a bit tricky. Be sure to do heavy research on what characters you're going to write, personality, how they'd generally respond to scenerios ...age... and figure out if it's something you personally feel comfortable writing, if it's something you cannot publicly share, it is understandable AND acceptable to charge a little more.
As for squeezing yourself into other kink spaces? honestly, you just have to create things for those genre's. An audience will eventually stumble upon it, and at first, you WILL notice a drastic number drop for such pieces; however, anyone wanting something personalized for something niche and out there, they'll gladly scoop up anyone who's willing to create things for it. Creating your own pieces for the field is your way of blindly telling people, "Hey, I'm willing to make this sort of thing on my own, so I'll definitely be willing to do it paid."
All these things take time and study, but, I know you'll do a banger of a job if you go forward with it <3
I'm actually going to be increasing my prices in the near future x'D but like...it's all a matter of balance, and I'll know you'll figure out yours <3
