Kahze's 2023 Furry Art Battle Plan
Hey everyone, this is going to be a very big year for me regarding furry art.
I'm contributing to a number of projects right now and I'll mention all of them here so you guys can get a look at how I'll be spending my days as a sniveling art slave.
Projects I'm on:
- Tales of Anima: This is my graphic novel / webcomic project that is about a human, male game developer dude (named Roxah) in his mid twenties who goes to a furry convention with his roomate, Wrothen, and accidentally activates an arcane portal to another realm called Anima - a world ruled by anthropomorphic animals. Both of them are turned into dragons during the portaling, but Roxah specifically turns into a white female dragon. Roxah really wants to go back home and resume her life as a game developer, but her roomate, Wrothen, is thrilled by his new life as a dragon... It makes sense for Wrothen because he was always a die-hard otherkin and believed he had a past life as a dragon that he always longed to return to. Roxah however, is not as fascinated by the concept of being a dragon as Wrothen is - though Roxah did dabble in Otherkin and Furry subcultures in his youth with a dragon-sona. I digress though, Roxah and Wrothen are seperated after they get transported and transformed, and Roxah is left alone to find some way home back to earth. She will meet many friends and foes as she quests to regain her humanity and her old life - but i'll spoil this part: it turns out that it is impossible for her to go back to the way things were. That is to say, Roxah is a dragoness forever now. To make matters even more unsettling, there is a dangerous sorcerer (Neuro) that can wield mind control magic who is locked in a conspiracy against the Akadian Empire - the biggest empire in Anima. Neuro discovers Roxah the white dragoness and now has his eyes on her for his plans... Specifically because of what she is (a white dragon), he thinks she will be very useful for his mission to dethrone Akadia's Emperor, Lotharo which he feels is so necessary he would expend the lives of people to do it.
I'm being vague as to WHY Neuro wants to dethrone Lotharo because I don't want to spoil the whole story, but I have to say I'm really excited about this project. I've gotten to talk allot about my personal experiences with becoming schizophrenic (which to me was analogous to turning into a dragon in this world) and spill my guts about mind control technology and Brain-Computer-Interfaces which is what allot of the content of my schizophrenia was about. Eventually mankind will develop the ability to control the brain of a human being or animal via a machine and while that could be very cool tech for things like video games and has incredible medical applications (such as curing the deaf, speaking to someone who is stuck in a coma, curing the blind, or just generally promoting a better sense of mental health) it is also highly dangerous and has very serious ramifications for society if it ever were to be made available. I have always loved the theme of dangerous technology that can be exploited and miss-used because those kinds of problems are right at our doorstep now. Just take a look at all the discussions we've been having about the ramifications of AI or Transhumanism. Or, more obviously, the debates over the existence of Nuclear Weapons. "What is fair technology to develop and what is evil and too powerful for humanity to own" will rage on into the future and I really want to make something that is a part of that discussion. Moving on from that point though, Tales of Anima also has the whole gender-bending theme Roxah has to deal with which - if you know me - is way up my alley being a TF TG fan. This project isn't going to just be a webcomic either. I also have a metroidvania-esc game in the works where the player controls Roxah. It is set after the webcomic's first arch is over in which Roxah gets involved in a war between Anima's Dragon and Gryphon factions. I'm also going to dabble in hand drawn animations for this project and WILL make the time to animate 1-2 minute long sequences of the webcomic's story so people can get a feel for what Tales of Anima would be like if it were an animated series. I know I can definitely pull this off here and there, I just need to scope it properly so I don't wind up taking on project features that are impossible to pull off. You can see a teaser for the webcomic right now at: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachme.....78272/tall.jpg These pages are effectively an art style guide for the rest of the project. I've done allot of work to my process to make my 3D comics feel less stiff feeling and i'll continue to find ways to make the comic look more illustrated even though ism using 3D as a base for my painting and coloring.
- Tail Hearts: I met
Nuraka at Furpocalypse last year and we really hit it off. It turns out that he wants to develop his own furry game, so I offered to help him out with it. Now we're house-mates and I spend time working on his game which is basically a 3D furry dating sim, but I'll let him introduce his own project when he's ready. We've been having allot of fun living together though. I've always wanted to live in a furry household and now that dream is finally coming true! You can find a few Tail Hearts concepts already in my gallery if you're curious about it.
- Legends of Equestria: This is a My Little Pony MMORPG that I have been brought on to contribute to. I am doing interface design work, 2d, and 3D art for this game. It's even already playable! You can check it out at https://www.legendsofequestria.com/ I've always wanted to experience what its like to work on an MMO, and I recently fell in love with MLP so i'm very happy to be doing some work for the ponies on this team. I'll share some of the work i've done later when the team leads let me. Being an entirely volunteer project, development is going at sort of at an "at-your-leisure" pace. I'm okay with this because (as you know) I have plenty of other things to do.
- Commissions: I'll still be working on my commission queue that I got from Midwest Furfest and the rest of you who have asked for images from me via FA. Right now i'm working on two new transformation comics. One is a male human to herm-Gryphon and the other is human to Lombax. I'm excited about both and I'm sure you all will like them allot. I'm especially excited about the lombax comic because I haven't made Ratchet stuff since I was working at Insomniac 10 years ago. It'll be nostalgic to make Lombaxes and their world again.
- Standalone TF Comics: If I can find the time, I'll still be making my own TF material that isn't a commission. I have ideas written out and partially drawn here and there and will be getting around to making them and even some sequels to previous comics when I can.
- Conventions: I'll be hitting whatever conventions I can along the way. I wont be doing dealers den but I may do artist alley to sell prints and take more commissions once I get my current batch finished. My next conventions are: Motor City Furcon, Furry Weekend Atlanta, Anthrocon, Furrydelphia, and Megaplex. A bunch of people did tell me before I left Furthemore last weekend that I was awarded guest of honor for 2024. The convention has yet to email me about that though, so I don't know if its actually the case. We'll see I guess!
So that's pretty much my battle plan for work for this year. I've been enjoying my time as a full time furry artist and can't wait to get all this stuff done. I hope to make awesome stuff for you guys and feel free to hit me up on discord or telegram if you wanna chat.
Godspeed to all of you.

Also looking forward to seeing how the two TF comics turn out (Gee, I do wonder why there :P)
