If you're mostly talking about art, then i feel ya. It just takes time and alot of experimenting as well to get used to the style. But i still like your art regardless since i can be a sucker for simple art :o

I've yet to figure out a non-convoluted way to make things not look flat.

as in the colours? If that's the case, have you tried adding lighting and shadings? They usually help make things less flat :o

I should probably just steal a style, mine doesn't work for that.
Hmmmm...As long as it's not the same/similar style, maybe you could mix yours and whoever the artist you could probably mix with. Anyone with simple style can work. Could be someone you know :o
