i adopted some axolotls on kijiji a few months ago and the deal was too good to be true for the whole setup they didnt include any chemicals to regulate the water and they didnt have asdequate filter system so i have been doing water changed regularly twice a week and i didnt have any problems so far until something bad happened on saturday and i havent been functioning very well for a little while. On saturday my bf accidentally cut his finger and he fainted while i was wrapping his bandage and he hit his head so hard he had a seizure and tbh in autistic and i have ptsd and i totally had a panic attack after the emts arrived they said he was okay and he didnt want to go to the hospital so they said hes probably going to be okay because hes very cognitive but anyway my point is it was very traumatic for me i havent been bathing and cleaning or doing laundry or going out at all.. and i been sleeping it off to clean my axolotls tank for maybe a week. and she has fungus on her gills now. This is definitely caused by poor filtration and i wasnt keeping up with the maintenance in result of that. I dont feel good about it so i am reaching for help. I have quarantined her and beginning some tea tree oil treatment for a week but this is only a tempoary solution to a problem that will arise again if i am not viligant on water changes. edit: i forgot to mention they were a rescue. They were in bad shape when i got them and many of their gills were chonky and missing lots. but they grow back in good time and the right conditions. they were doing much better until this happened. I did rehome the one that was looking the worst because im not experienced in axolotls and i was second guessing myself. i rehomed one to a girl who said she was from crystal skull exotics from guelph but when i went to their facebook page theres someone going around using their name but they are not the same people. so im guessing shes going to breed that poor sick undersized thing :( so now i feel they are probably safer in my care since i check on them so often and i currently dont work so i can do art and my own businesses
