Of Jetman and Happenstances

Hey, gang. Now this is something I've been wanting to talk about for a while. Surprised I haven't talked about this earlier since at the start of the year, I bought and built the Super Minipla models of Super Sentai mechs that've come out, including Jet Icarus and Jet Gaurda. Both of which are transformable, posable, and friggin' awesome! Both of which belong to today's subject as well as its writer.
For those not in the know, Toshiki Inoue has written a ass-ton of things, that includes tokusatsu, and especially for Super Sentai and Kamen Rider. I'm not the first to say this, but the dude's always been rather hit or miss to me. He's like Mark Millar in a way, and like Millar, I think he does his best work whilst restrained. He's known for making everything 'edgier' and 'darker', racism on the bad guys' perspective, jerkass characters, constant gray morality, crappy love triangles that really don't go anywhere, and boy howdy does this guy truly have a problem when it comes to writing women. And then there's the way he writes his endings, which I'll give an example here soon. Some of his works where all this comes to mind is Kamen Rider Faiz, and jeez is it a slog to watch. And yeah, there's an example of a crappy ending right there. Yeah, I pretty much hate the show, but Inoue's novelization of Faiz... GOOD FRIGGIN' GOD! You want an example of bad fanfiction, there it is. He's also responsible for Kamen Riders 'The First' and 'The Next.' Both are horrible and I plan to something with that when I finally watch 'Shin Kamen Rider 2023'.
Reason why I'm bringing him up, cuz like I've said he's done Sentai work too. And with King-Ohger currently going, I was planning on getting Avataro Sentai Donbrothers on DVD via ebay here soon. And when I was looking up some info about this show, I found who the main writer was. Ooooooooooooh boy~ how did I not see it earlier when I noticed clips of a love triangle (Wanna avoid Spoilers) And I will see it cuz I AM interested in it, but jeez, I fully expect to see Inoue's other tropes.
Like I've said before, Inoue's hit or miss, like Choujin Sentai Jetman. It's considered Inoue's 'magnum opus.' People put this damn thing on such a high pedestal that it's annoying. 'Ooooooooh~ it's dark and edgy.' Fanboys really need to define terms on what the hell that actually means anymore. To me, Jetman really feels no different than watching any other Sentai. Sure there's gonna be little nuances. That's expected in each passing year for Sentai, but it really isn't that 'dark or edgy' to me. Or did fanboys forget that there was that Cup O'Noodles monster, that Tomato Monster, or when some of the characters get their personalities switched in the one episode? This show ain't really dark. Of course there's the novelizations done by Inoue, which are said to be 'darker and edgier'. This is the kinda crap that the wannabe edgelords will make as their go-to excuse, just like they'll say: "We see people get killed in Jetman!" AND?!?! We see people get systematically get slaughtered and killed in other Sentai! A scene in Gokaiger where the mooks gun down and kill civies! And are you gonna keep using the excuse that nobody is any of buildings that are smashed up? Hell I'd venture to say Dairanger is more grim.
The only characters I really liked where Ako (Blue Swallow) and Raita (Yellow Owl). Ryu (Red Hawk) and Kaori (White Swan) where always boring to me. I mean they're OK, but nothing to write home about. Especially when Ryu keeps pinning for his dead girlfriend in the first episode who somehow became one of the main villains. (Spoiler Alert) And then the love triangle with them and Gai (Black Condor) Speaking of, yeah the jerkass with a heart of gold. He'll grate on me at times, but he's not without merrit.
The villains themselves, Vyram, a very interesting bunch, but the main one, Radiquet.... URRRGH! I JUST CANNOOT STAND THIS BASTARD! He's like Ebony Maw in 'Avengers: Infinity War;' just that condescending, holier-than-thou attitude. He's not the villain you can't help but like, like Loki. He's the kinda creep you want to see get his ass kicked. Even Shadam from Dairanger, just a cruel dickwad, was better than this guy.
And then there's the ending..... oh Lord that ending! I wouldn't be complaining as much if Gai sacrificed himself to beat Vyram in the final episode, but did it really HAVE to be with Gai getting stabbed by a mugger on the way to Ryu and Kaori's wedding?!
"GAI DIED LIKE A TRUE HERO CUZ HE DIDN'T WANT TO RUIN HIS BEST FRIENDS' WEDDING!" Gai died like a friggin' idiot!! He didn't want to go to a hospital to treat an easily treatable wound just so we wouldn't ruin Ryu and Kaori's wedding?!?!?! Dude, they're gonna find your corpse on that bench later on that day in a pool of blood! Day ruined no matter how you slice it! There's no win here!
But no, I don't hate Jetman at all. There are episodes I'll see, and there's 3 episodes I avoid like a friggin' plague. It's done by my boy Keita Amemiya and his designs are awesome in this. As I said before, I love the mechs in this show, and I'm still waiting for a SuperMini TetraBoy, and the Shodo figures of Jetman. 'Fore anybody asks, I do know of the Jetman comic continuation that has Jow (GreenEagle) Will I get the Shout Factory DVD of Jetman? LIke Zyuranger and Dairanger... probably not, unless each are marked $20 or lower. Otherwise, I'll just watch the episodes I do like on other channels.
So that's all I gotta say about Jetman and its' writer.
Thanks for your time.

On a side note about Inoue: Did you know he's writing his own edgy gundam manga?
On that side note's side note about Inoue: Why am I not bloody surprised? -_-
