How is this surprising? Tupac has been used post-humously. Vocaloid has been a thing for a while. Our primitive brains can only keep track of so many names and faces, so if a single 'actor' can be made immortal through AI, that would be an effective way to hack our minds and give a product broader appeal. This trend will only continue.

We’re hitting a big boom right now and it hasn’t yet leveled into the plateau of production. My prediction is that it’s going to end up being really expensive for the amazing stuff and won’t be available to the public. We’re already seeing that with open source stuff being locked down after being promised it’ll remain open forever.

Voice acting isn’t dead. There are accents, languages, general notes of charisma (I can’t smoothly read a single short paragraph right) that I would gladly pay for, and if you could change your voice using ai to sound female, that doubles your availability and repertoire. I can’t figure out that stuff, I don’t want to buy a subscription and I don’t know how to make new voices or what software to even use. Also, I’m quite bashful about moaning into a mic in my household. 😳

There is a lot of animators that need good sound, offer the service and adapt I guess. Ai isn’t going anywhere.

AI is still in its infancy. The current methods of AI generation are incredibly inefficient and the reason they produce the results they do is because these methods allow the model to be trained by driving it backwards. Hardware will continue to get more powerful but also methods will get better. We may soon reach a singularity where AI is sufficiently good enough to train the next level, and the next level could be more efficient, which allows further refining and so on.

These more efficient AIs would be able to run on consumer-level hardware available today, but the hardware of the future will also allow more capabilities.

The future is going to be wild.

Everyone thought Netflix and streaming was gonna kill physical media, Until everyone else wanted a slice of the pie. Now today, even if you subscribe to every service; there is STILL stuff that isn't available, and the prices of the subs are increasing to boot. So you get fed up and just buy the blue ray and play it on your console. These AI algorithms run on expensive, power hungry hardware made with silicone chips that are in short supply right now. "I couldn't try any of the free and open art AI's myself because my GTX 1070 isn't good enough.", and prices for consumer hardware is gonna skyrocket again like when crypto mining was a thing. So as demand for AI services increase, so too will the prices.

SO If Ubisoft or any other of the failing AAA pubs want to replace VA's and writers with AI to lower the cost of developing their shitty open world games, you can bet that these AI companies are still gonna charge them and arm and a leg a few years from now. SO for indie devs and smaller studios, It might be easier, and cheaper to just hire VA's and writers to increase the quality of their product. Especially since they are not constantly forced to pinch pennies in order to appease their shareholders by lowering production costs while simultaneously increasing profits.

This is all speculation on my part, I'm no real expert. I'm just choosing to be positive on all this since I'm personally VERY tired of dooming about everything. I just hope that these companies offer discounts on subs for people with disabilities, Ai assisted text to type, and speech could be very helpful.

pretty wild and even with vocaloids, i do wonder. if people will notice such a stark difference, i tried voice acting roles on discord, not well. but in cartoons movies anime etc, there is so much effort involved. do ya think people will prefer in the long road AI? customer based. er edit kinda how Jui said it there.

AI can be interesting if used correctly. But it will still be a while before it gets close to a genuinely trained and professional voice actor. It's great for cheap or free voices. Something to fill a gap or just fun for jokes. Like the videos doing the rounds with presidents playing video games. But real comedy or drama? I just don't think AI can do it justice like a human can. At least for now.

I feel artists, human artists, in any media will always have something that AI can't bring. Sadly, that does mean that lesser skilled or experienced spots will be taken up faster or more reliably with AI. But I feel if a human is properly trained and has passion there will always be a spot for them.

Go back to the 90s and pick a less-popular sitcom. AI can totally do that today. It is easy to hold up high quality goods and say AI isn't there yet, but AI certainly is threatening those with less talent today.

James Earl Jones has gone on to permit his voice used in AI for Darth Vader, you know this. It can also be used to redub tv edit films.

Its weird how everyone said AI or robots will replace blue collar workers first and now that its starting to come out its going after jobs thought to be immune to it, and leaving the trades alone.

I would be lieing if I said I didn't find the whole thing amusing. I think it depends on how actors respond to it much like artists. I have heard the actress that voiced the female sole survivor from Fallout 4 has spoken out against it and has mods using her voice faked by Ai taken down or remove the dialog.

Many also didn't really care as much when they said it was going to replace trades or coding either. There was only a big fuss whenever it went for art or voice acting.

Partly because people hate the trades, I'm actually surprised that California of all states is working on making driverless commercial vehicles illegal and that state absolutely hates truck drivers. The only reason people actually care is because it could hit all most all job sectors.

Look to youtube for ways you can try.
But most of all create a portfolio of examples of your voice.

if we can just get it the hell out of arts and entertainment, and into science and tech where it belongs its gonna open up a lot of great things. Medical, logistics, even space travel... i think its gonna be quite an adventure. :D

This was going to happen eventually with AI voice synthesization. This is something that has existed for quite some time now. You can take a 15 second sample of someone's voice and the AI can build a voice from that model you've given it.

You're probably familiar with TikTok Lady Voice, that's just one of many AI generated voices generated by people that have uploaded their voice as a base model. I've even seen darker uses for AI generated voices by creating the voices of lost family members who've long passed away by recreating their voices from whatever audio source they can grab.

The only beneficial use of AI generated voice from a model sample is if you lost your voice and unable to speak as you use to, by using your own voice as the model from before, it can then speak for you.

I don't think it'll work, because the best AI voice I've ever heard,
still managed to sound like William Shatner's understudy, by
pausing between every word. Real speech flows, with all kinds
of little kinks, depending on your life history.

Deep fakes are gonna get more and more difficult to disprove and a whole new wave of crimes are gonna be shown from that

This is disgusting. Companies shouldn't be using AI like this. It's only going to draw further hostility to the idea of having AI be helpful.

It's almost like the mainstream motion picture studios (movies, TV, animation, ETC) fucking SUCK.

AI is going to take jobs from actors artists and workers. The film industry loves AI so they don't even have to pay these hard working people. And as for voice overs they don't need these actors either. My momma witnessed that first hand.😑😑😑

Lately, I find myself simultaneously marveled by and afraid of AI.

On one hand, it's incredibly impressive how easily you can synthesize not just text like we all were doing during the AI Dungeon fad, but images, video, even someone's voice! And that brings us to...

...The Other hand: where's all the ethics guys making sure these new technologies are used responsibly? Oh yeah, they were fired by the companies developing these AI systems. :/

It wasn't that long ago when the worst thing that could happen would be you'd get stuck in an endless loop of "you think about the maclanky, you think about how good it would be if you ate it raw, you think about how good it would be if you ate it boiled." Stupid shit like that. Of course some megacorp would come in and take a VA's voice to let an AI impersonate them...

It's only a matter of time before some voice actor is "caught" saying racist shit, be cancelled, then people to figure out "it was ai generated by some random troll"

Just goes to show both that the greedy will do literally anything to save a buck, and that one should always at least skim the entirety of a written agreement before getting into it/accepting a contract.

Of course, I highly doubt an AI could ever replace the genuine article when it comes to things, but hopefully enough people get on this and start boycotting those whom would seek to cheat genuine talent.

As for becoming a voice actor, I sadly have 0 clue. I should, given it was said as early as 8th grade that I should be on the radio, or otherwise lending my voice to many different things, but self-doubt and almost complete lack of self-esteem have prevented me from even looking into the industry.
