Motorola DROID
So over the past few days, I've been distracting myself with new toys. I've gotten a brand new Flip UltraHD camera, a new PS3 (as well as inFamous and Assassin's Creed II, both of which are beautiful games), and a new Motorola DROID on Verizon.
It's such a freakin' slick device, I honestly don't know where to start with the praising.
One thing is for sure, though: everyone's been making huge deals about alleged iPhone killers.
This one is it.
Adieu, Apple.

I just have a simple tracfone which I think is a Motorola or something like that.
SORRY FOR LACK OF TALKING LATELY I got side track :| <3 how have you been.
So... yeah.
Been following your journals to the best of my abilities, so... yeh.
I could not possibly be happier with my iPhone. I can only hope you have that kind of success with yours.
I'm sure that it was most likely an isolated incident, but the fact that Apple is infamous for coming out with new revisions of their products seemingly like clockwork, combined with my poor experience combines to give me a certain dislike of Apple, which is a negative contrast to my original near-fanboy status.
The DROID, however, is quite an amazing product, and I can't see any real issues (short of the weird autofocusing problem the camera has, but the fact that this camera HAS an autofocusing ability puts it head and shoulders ahead of the 3G) plaguing me just yet.
If I may say, if you are aware the issues with your iphone were likely isolated, then a rational person would have had no issues exchanging the unit for another under warranty. Apple has constantly been rated as the best warranty provider in the computer industry, after all. Since you didn't choose to do that, I have to assume you didn't have the fanboy status you claim to have had :) That's fine, of course, but if you have a defective unit, exchange it.. don't rate the product based on it and assume they're all that way.
FYI, I went through five (yes, 5) palm Treo 600s before I got to the 650, and I went through 2 of those, all under warranty.
As for the 3GS coming out, well, I don't think just because a previous model was popular is enough reason to hold back new technology. Does it suck that you have an old gen phone only a month and a half after getting it? Sure, but it's still a good phone, so who cares? The only real difference is the compass, some memory, video (which you can do on the 3G if you jailbreak), and processor speed. I have a 3G and I use it all day every day for my job, and I love it. I just extended the warranty on it so I can ensure I have it working for another year at least.
As for your motorola... well, I can only hope you have better success with yours than I did with my last big M. I would NEVER own another motorola after the phone I had. Great hardware. Worst software interface I've ever seen (with exception to the sony/erikson crap).
I will rehash my previous statement. I hope you enjoy your new phone :)
I used to want to actually get a whole slew of new Apple products, but as I said, the fact that they release new products with a combination of both minor and major revisions almost every year just feels like a sucker punch to the gut. Or the junk. Or a combination of the two. I realize technology itself is like that, but honestly, it seems far worse with Apple than anyone else. You get a new iPod now, but if you would've waited for the new fiscal year, you could've had that iPod with an accelerometer. Or an HD screen. Or a happy ending.
A bit extreme, to be sure, but I've been buying Apple products for a while now. Maybe not anything as extreme as a computer system (as I still can't rationalize that much money for something that lacks the level of compatibility that the PC platform has these days. But that's a completely different tangent, so I'll skirt around it.
I'd considered returning the 3G for a replacement, but the fact of the matter is that I'm sure AT&T (whom doesn't have quite as sparkling a reputation as Apple) would've simply told me to do what I was already doing: "Try a factory reset on it to reload it to like-new condition, and go from there." My experience with AT&T was less than stellar, and I couldn't wait to get away from them after only a few months. So that's more against AT&T than Apple, but Apple isn't completely innocent, either.
But I do concur on the note of Motorola phones. I've only had ONE before this one, the Motorola KRAVE. Got it because it seemed incredibly gimmicky and neat, and it was. But the defects on it were apparent almost immediately after I got it, so... yeah, I dunno. Anyway, I am indeed enjoying the DROID for the time being. I just need to remember to shut down all the unnecessary power-drains while I'm at work. Like, GPS and wi-fi, and... well, the other stuff.
Anyway, 's all I got. Not bashing Apple by any stretch, just... not as much my cup o' tea as I'd originally thought.
