A KrayVenyte is always born in the sea.
This unique Clan of Vampires are both alike to their more classically known brethren, and vastly different. Firstly, and perhaps most importantly, a KrayVenyte cannot sire another, and can only be born by the will and magics of The Old Ones. So who, and what are they? And how are KrayVenytes created?
The Old Ones are ancient, magically imbued ancestors of today’s Great White Sharks. They are typically 23-30 feet in length, with males being most common, nonbinaries being uncommon, and females being the most rare. Other than thier penchant for extreme viciousness, very little is known about these mysterious massive beasts, because those who encounter them are often effectively hunted down and eaten without a trace of remorse or remains.
On a much rarer occasion, the prey will be Devoured. This is a special process; the difference is extremely vital to the birth of a KrayVenyte Clan Vampire.
The Old Ones never know peace from their hunger and so they are always looking to eat, but when they encounter a very special soul, they will Devour them, which means to consume them with the use of unknown magics that fuse the souls of predator and prey together.
This process is very mysterious, leading scholars to debate whether it is more physical or spiritual in root. In an undefinable capacity, The Old One carries the Devoured within them for exactly ten years. They share every thought and experience, as well as some of the knowledge and memories from those the Old One consumes over the 10 year fusion period.
Once 10 years have passed, the new KrayVenyte vampire will instinctively eat their way out of his or her host, the consumption re-sealing their soul fusion in this new form. The soul of the Old One becomes the KrayVenyte’s new hunger, and lives and a separate-yet-combined presence in the vampire’s mind.
KrayVenyte are also unique in the way that they can live in relative comfort on land or at sea (or another body of water) and, often do spend parts of their lives in one and then the other. They are a uniquely composed species that can be considered a combination of Vampire, Shark, and Merfolk. { Some Traits Shared with Common Vampires: }
* Cannot withstand Sunlight (unless it shines through water)
* Nocturnal
* Diet consists of the blood of live prey (and sometimes, the flesh).
* Will Frenzy when too hungry
POWERS/DISCIPLINES:
Sea Form (Default Trait) ⭐
KrayVenyte Clan can shapeshift from their original forms into a sea-dwelling form. Their claws and fangs extend, and their bodies become covered in a unique type of scale called dermal denticles, which are technically a type of teeth. The bottom half of the body is replaced by the powerful tail and fins of a shark, and a sharp dorsal fin sprouts from their back. They also gain gills on either their faces, necks, collar bone or ribs. All of their oral teeth become serrated fangs, and they can grow in size up to a total of 10 feet in length. Strength and Speed are extremely enhanced in this form, as is the KrayVenyte’s bloodlust. Partial shape-shifting is possible with practice.
Create Remora (Default Trait) ⭐
While most vampires have the ability to create Ghouls, the cousin ability of this particular vampire clan varies to some degree. Remora are a special kind of Ghoul created by only KrayVenyte vampires, and thus have a few different unique traits and abilities. To create a Remora, the KrayVenyte vampire must feed a mortal some of their blood. This enhances the mortal’s senses, as well as increases their strength, speed, and stamina. They will also feel a very powerful loyalty to their owner, and find it extremely difficult to refuse his or her wishes. The Remora will also feel a powerful drive to stay physically close to the KrayVenyte vampire who made them, and will experience anxiety and stress to varying degrees until they are within eyesight of their maker. Additionally, Remora who regularly receive blood from their maker can develop small subtle gills, which tend to be useful when the vampire wishes to spend some time at sea. On rare occasions, Remora are known to develop webbing between the fingers that forms when they enter the water with their maker. Another rare trait Remora can develop is a mental connection to their maker that is also activated when they are both in the water; this allows them to speak to one another telekinetically as opposed to verbally (which would be far more difficult underwater).
Siren Song (UNCOMMON Trait) ⭐⭐
A supernatural skill sometimes developed by the KrayVenyte is a singing voice with a hypnotic and irresistibly alluring quality. The ability varies from one individual to another, but generally can be used to lull listeners into an agreeable, malleable trance. It can also be used to put victims to sleep, or erase a few minutes of the listener's most recent memory (a handy skill for sneaking snacks off of unwilling prey). And of course, it can be used to inspire feelings of powerful infatuation and obsession in the target, the duration of which is determined by the skill and magical abilities of the singer. It is an easy power to misuse, and those with this gift must take care in training the ability properly, lest it activate without intent.
Blood Bending (RARE Trait) ⭐⭐⭐
Because Blood Sensitivity is so common in this species, the development of this skill in particular is quite rare. It is also known as Blood Telekinesis; and much like the tides of the ocean, it is affected by the gravity of the moon. It is strongest when the moon is full, and weakest when the moon is new. The KrayVenyte can mentally control the blood of their victims, as well as their own blood if they wish. This skill can easily be weaponized; in such ways as controlling targets like puppets or simply pulling the blood out of their bodies. A subtle application of this magic could be used to simulate sexual arousal in a target, by purposefully directing blood flow to specific areas. There are rarely whispered legends of KrayVenyte with this ability being able to morph their own blood into crystalized weapons, but it is debated if such a thing is even possible, or merely the stuff of myths.
WEAKNESSES/BANES:
Call of The Tides (Default Trait) ❌
As a fusion of creatures from the land and sea, a KrayVenyte is often restless and torn between the lives they could live in each opposing world; even on land they cannot fully repress the oceanic origins of the predator's part of their soul, thus they always crave being in the water. Clan members handle this compulsion in a variety of ways; some take many baths, some commonly visit natural bodies of water for a swim (and perhaps a hunt) and others just lounge under a lawn sprinkler at night. Some even choose to drink water, though it only provides hydration, and relief of the compulsion, but not any nutritional value. Ignoring this instinctual compulsion for too long can prove dangerous, as eventually the urge will become too powerful and extremely overwhelming, and can cause a clan member to abandon life on land for decades at a time.
Cannot Sire (Default Trait) ❌
KrayVenyte cannot sire other undead, which tends to be considered a crippling weakness among other species of vampires. Though the Remora they can create do have extended life spans, they are still functionally mortal, and will eventually die. Because of this, many KrayVenyte vampires become quite solitary, favoring the avoidance of building any bonds that they would eventually and inevitably lose.
Too Many Teeth (Default Trait) ❌
KrayVenyte grow extra teeth from a variety of places on their bodies; sometimes the additions are few and subtle, sometimes numerous and obvious. In order to be less conspicuous, some members of this clan choose to file down their many protruding fangs, while others don't bother because the pesky appendages often regrow by the end of the night. Common areas for extra fangs to sprout include: ear tips, elbows, shoulders, fingernails, and toenails.
Blood Sensitivity (COMMON Trait) ❌❌
This is a trait almost every KrayVenyte struggles with to some degree; while most vampires feel a powerful draw to consume blood, this instinct is increased at least tenfold for this particular vampire clan. In some extreme cases, KrayVenyte cannot even see a bright blood red color without feeling her or his apatite twinge alive and threaten a frenzy. Most commonly, they can withstand the sight of things that appear like blood, but the scent of real blood will cause an extreme increase in the drive to hunt and feed. This powerful prey drive will often automatically activate parts of the KrayVenyte's Sea Form, causing transformations advantageous to hunting such as the unsheathing of extra fangs, or the lengthening of claws. In order to blend in, and conceal their predatory and bloodthirsty nature, it is often easier for this species to avoid any interaction with blood at all, unless they are intending to eat what's bleeding.
Way Too Many Teeth (UNCOMMON Trait) ❌❌❌
Sometimes the genetic inclination to grow extra teeth in this species is super charged to the point of creating the beautifully grotesque; in laymen's terms, especially unlucky members of this species can grow teeth in additional, arguably more problematic places such as: the tongue, eyelash beds, heels, genitals, spine, wrists and earlobes.
