FurryNetwork, Itaku, Newgrounds, Pillowfort and SoFurry are a few sites which have similar policies to FurAffinity. There are also some Mastodon instances which have similar policies (charmeleon is OK, sonic is not)

I'd pick a handful of those to branch out to. ...if you're not already using PostyBirb I strongly recommend learning it as it saves a ton of time

It will definitely cause a lot of art to get Thanos snapped. The issue is like...canon proportions will have to also be altered as well. It's going to be...a huge deal. Though I doubt it will affect the sites numbers in the long run.

VCL is fine without Pokemon and Digimon art! They just have fewer users. FurAffinity won't die they'll just be like 10% less popular in the short term

Very true haha. It will simply help other sites get more traffic in the end. But FA still has a large userbase. So ultimately it won't affect much.

Its not, e621 and other booru-style sites just aren't designed to be a gallery or feed for particular users or content, rather a big database of easily searchable images.

What they've basically announced, in my opinion, is that they and not the artist get to determine the intent of the pic, or rather that intent no longer matters, only interpretation.

The rule as written was already "Minors are defined as real or fictional humanoids with a childlike body or younger than 18 years old, and any adolescent animals" so I don't think that changed -- they could always just look at someone's art and say "yeah i know you think that character is 30 years old but we're overriding you"

Well in any event it's dumb. The worst part is that they treat oversight the same as deliberately breaking the rules and punish it the same; every pic I've gotten in trouble for on this damn site is one I posted back when it wasn't against the rules and simply overlooked when going through my gallery and deleting everything that violated the new rule(s). My reward for complying is to be suspended when one I forgot is discovered or reported; evidently they don't look at the upload date and/or assume I left it up intentionally, despite otherwise complying. I've attempted to appeal the suspensions and explain that they weren't deliberately left up, that my Goddamn gallery goes back to 2005 and despite going through it multiple times there's always the chance I could (and do) overlook something, but they always declare the suspension valid. I get that there's no reason they should necessarily take my word for it, but having been a member in something resembling good standing apart from this ever since '05, you'd think I'd be given some leeway. But they don't do things on a case by case basis. As it is, if I get one more strike, I'm gone, so at this point, with what does and doesn't constitute a minor being even more vague and now basically including any adults who just happen to be short and thin, I'm going to go through my gallery one last time and get rid of anything that looks too egregious (I've already deleted three pics), but otherwise not going to bother. If I get one more strike and I'm out, what the fuck do I care about trying to hold on to my account here by complying with such a nebulous new ruling? They're gonna find something that strikes them as violating the rules so... eh.

yeah, that's exactly the boat i was in as well -- people finding stuff i'd uploaded years before. i went through and gave it a very thorough sweep five years ago and seemingly caught most of it because i haven't been harassed since, but of course i'll be doing another thorough sweep next sunday to purge pretty much everything. i'd love to apply some personal judgment and be like "ohhhh scrafty, i mean he's evolved he's probably fine" "ohhh machoke, i mean he's a big strong muscle guy!" but let's be real, they're all short and they're all cutely drawn

last thing i'd want is to purge like 90% of my pics and then get banned anyway because i left up a pic of Rocket Raccoon or whatever who's inarguably pretty diminutive and stuff, so yeah. like you said, one strike and you're out, gotta be careful

That's sort of how I always wished it would end up anyway, I never really felt like a "furry" and felt slightly out of place on a furry site

It's such a poor policy to implement because it's entirely subjective as to where the line is on how "aged up" the canon design of a pokemon has to be before it's "acceptable". Is there a magic body ratio or how long the legs and how small the head has to be in respect to the overall body that they plan on using?

I'm pretty sure that's the gist, anything below about 7 heads tall is suspicious and anything below about 5 heads tall is right out

It's definitely out of left field! When I purged all of my Spyro and Yordle art I never actually deleted the submissions, because a part of me thought like "Surely this is just a mistake, and they'll reverse it in a few years". But man they just kept their foot on the gas ha ha

I really do try my hardest to draw the characters accurate to canon. I probably make the eyes bigger sometimes but it's just because i suck at anatomy not anything deliberate

It will happen eventually. Cub art is generally well hated on so calls for that to be banned are common. Next to it is "feral" art because its likened to bestiality even as the character behaves like any other person.

Honestly I would bet good money that it will eventually be something they ban. They will say no now but there are a number of loud voices relating it to the zoophile movement.

Kinda makes you think about what fantasy races could potentially be considered to childish, there are a lot that are smaller than average humans that I can picture somone trying to make the argument for. Fairy, halfling, gnome, pixie, kobold, dwarf, elf, goblin, sprite, hobbit, and so on… will any and all nsfw art containing these races potentially be a ban-able offense?

Not to mention it’s not properly defined what counts as sexual, would they argue any content containing something that could be defined as a fetish as sexual, feet, vore, ect?

Sorta like what ended up happening with this one dude who got his gallery nuked for doing this.. japanese rope art while in a fursuit and it was treated as pornographic (in spite of the fact DeviantArt allows it no problem) but it was that vagueness of the rule that let them act either way. FA needs its "Elon Musk" moment. They focus too much on content moderation policies, not enough on functionality and updated code and features.

yeah it's by far the silliest of all the arbitrary site rules i've seen so far, ha ha. even DeviantArt is like -- okay i get it you don't want porn, i won't draw porn. Newgrounds is like -- yeah please don't put bowser jr here, he's sort of a "kid", okay i get it. FurAffinity is just -- like okay, porn is OK, and pokemon are OK, and pikachu is OK except you can't make them proportioned like a pikachu, but also we're not banning pikachu... well, i think it'll be clearer in a week or two.

in the meantime it's just really hard to judge their intent or the kind of website they're going for

What I think is going on is they are hellbent on banning cub art and are overreacting to the point that the "age" of a fictional character isn't the sole qualifier anymore but also art style now if they deem the character to have "childlike" proportions like pokemon and digimon tend to have.

thanks man hope you'll try out a few other sites and see which ones work for you! i've been disappointed browsing newgrounds (it's mostly human/straight art there which isn't my jam) but Itaku and Pillowfort have had some decent content I've stumbled upon here and there. There are a lot of options, I think Inkbunny is a good one but you'll want to set up your keyword blacklists to avoid certain stuff

honestly the only reason ive avoided inkbunny is the negative light the overall sites rep might shine on myself, but at this point it doesnt matter much anymore

I think people are all out of GaF's after so many sites got Tumblr'd. At least IB has only a soft ban on humans. You are allowed to post offsite links. I remember the absolutely hamfisted way FanFiction.net tried to stop the braindrain/flight after a particularly unpopular policy change. Tons and tons of broken posts, missing text, links censored, and so on. XD

It just leaves it 100% open to interpretation to each individual mod.
If one mod doesn't like your work, they can say it's underage, nothing you can do about it.
