I'm slowly working on improving my '91 Ford Tempo while I'm still using it as a daily driver. And it's the only car I have.
So far, I've replaced the rear springs with Moog variable-rate cargo springs, which definitely stiffens up the rear and helps reduce understeer. I swapped one of the rear struts to a Gabriel Ultra when the stock strut broke during the spring swap. Haven't gotten the other side yet.
I've also thrown in a K&N air filter and modified the stock air intake to let in more air, as well as replaced the restrictive stock muffler with a much higher flowing Dynomax Super Turbo (gives it a nice low note, and the volume is low- in other words, perfect).
Aerowise, I've added front and rear tire spats (the picture in my submissions is old, since I've done some research on the size of the spats, and now have the front and rear spats to appropriate sizes for lift and drag reduction), a rear lip spoiler, and vortex generators (think of those fin-looking things on the newer Lancer Evo.)
I've also replaced one of the rubber exhaust hangers, so my pipes aren't dangling anymore.
Astetically, I've added a pair of driving lights and a tach, and it's plastered with stickers, a pair of pawprints in the side rear windows, and my fursona in the rear window.
Here's my to-do list:
I REALLY need to get the passenger window replaced. It got stuck down when the motor died and it shattered when trying to get it back up.
Need to replace the other 3 struts and swap the front springs.
I'm also looking into designing a belly pan. I just need to wait until after the special election here in Oregon (January, and I'm not sure how I'm going to vote. Need to read the text first, but the general consensus is Dems vote Yes and Republicans vote No on two measures to increase revenue through taxes. I'm socially liberal, but fiscally conservative, so I might vote no on those unless the text says it's something that won't affect employment.) before I'll be able to get material for it. Those campaign signs are made of coroplast, a plastic that's made like cardboard, and is quite good for these kind of things.
I'm also thinking about slapping some 17" wheels on it, if I find a good deal on a set with a 4X108 bolt pattern and around 40mm offset.
There's a possibility I might be getting a front air dam and side skirts as well, which are very rare for Tempos.
Other than that, I FINALLY got the check engine light to stay off! The EGR and IAC valves needed a good cleaning, and I also got the throttle body while I was at it. She's got some nice power now, and even surprised me a few times. :) She's also got new Oregon plates and I've got my Oregon license, so I'm fully legal now, and don't need to re-register until 2011! XD
Also, Progressive has pretty good rates for male drivers under 25. It was only $350 for 6 months, and everywhere else was at least $600. Geico was $660, and 21st Century was a whopping $1300.
