Of Masks and Riders

Good day!
Wanted to talk about this, since me and my friends are a-gonna be checkin' out Shin Kamen Rider tonight... thus instantly dating this journal for anyone reading XD And that's Shin 2023, not '92. XD And I wanted to share my first experience with Kamen Rider that grew via causality.
I'm sure all of us 90s kids watching Power Rangers will remember it's conglomeration of crossovers with different Tokusatsu heroes back in the day, especially with Ninja Turtles, and of course, Saban's Masked Rider. That start of season 3 or MMPR served as the backdoor pilot for the Masked Rider series going forward. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who stuck with that show wondering when the hell Dex was gonna meet up with the Rangers again! Saban's Masked Rider... yeah it didn't have the same zeitgeist that Power Rangers had; more of a sitcom-y feel and a particularly good one at that. Less I talk about Furbus the better! I stuck with it for the fighting, and seeing Masked Rider's Super Gold and Super Blue was a definite highlight for me ^^ Even Shotaro Ichinomori didn't like it.
Yeah, from watching Saban's Masked Rider, causality opened doors for me in unexpected ways. Like how I noticed where was a significant difference with MMPR come season 2, I noticed a major difference right at the beginning of the Masked Rider's first fight. And like early MMPR season 2 fight footage, they sloppily edited fight footage from 'Kamen Rider ZO', and as little kid re-watching that fight over and over, I kept wondering who was this guy. As the show progressed, different episodes spliced fight footage from 'Kamen Rider J', the episode where Dex got kaiju-sized to fight a grown monster. And if you watched the earliest of promos for Saban's Masked Rider, you see the shot of Kamen Rider J's head. And as I was learning about the original Japanese stuffs when I was 9-10, I started collecting books of them, and that's when I finally saw what 'ZO' and 'J' looked like, recognizing the spliced footage. That's what lead me to wanna learn more of the original Japanese Kamen Rider. And from that aforementioned books I learned where those 'Masked Rider Warriors' came from, after that last episode of Masked Rider.
Saw 'J' when I was 11. Found the complete Kamen Rider Black RX when I was 16. I took me a decade, from ages 8 to 18, to be able to find something watchable of ZO that didn't have me resort to renting from someplace miles away from where I lived. And no, watching something online wasn't an option for me back then as it is in abundance today! XD But before finally seeing 'ZO', in me doing my research of it, got me to learn of its director, Keita Amemiya, who also did 'J' as I learned later, and that lead me to be a fan of his work, and design stuffs like him. ^^
Like I said, I'm a huge proponent of causality. And love it/hate it, it all started with Saban's Masked Rider and how it created my love for Tokusatsu in general. And it lead me early this year to be able to see the original Kamen Rider show from '71 in it's 98 episode entirety. Criminy, 98 episodes?! After watching it... yeah it's definitely a product of its time, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. If that old show was remade today in 2023, there would definitely be some changes. Take out those crazy-ass noises the monsters made! OY! And I disappointed on how Ichigo and Nigo took down the Shocker Riders.
And I'd be remised if I didn't mention 2005's 'Kamen Rider: The First', so I'll keep it simple. It started off good, after that... oy! The fight scenes were the only highlight. And that subplot with that dude and gal, who turned out to be SHOCKER bad guys, was SO POINTLESS, you could take it out and you wouldn't miss a thing at all. It's sequel in 2007, 'The Next' and aptly the last sucked so much donkey balls its smell still permeates the air to me. It's like they forgot they were making a Kamen Rider movie, not some cheap horror flick.
So, what am I expecting from this rendition of Kamen Rider tonight (at the time of this journal's post)? Y'all know me, I just wanna have fun with it. I don't expect great cinema... I JUST WANT IT TO BE BETTER THAN KAMEN RIDER'S 'THE FIRST' AND 'THE NEXT'. It's Kamen Rider, so I do expect some kinda drama. But I just wanna fun with it ^^
As for Saban's Masked Rider itself... well nobody talks about it these days. Hell, there was never any kinda DVD release in its entirety. You can only catch it on YouTube apparently. It's kooky, sometimes not in a good way, but it's not without its merits and perks. Mediocre, but it can be fun. ^^
The Kamen Rider franchise itself; will I see the other olden Rider shows? Eeehh, maybe/maybe not. The original '71 show was what I was interested in watching the most, and now I have ^^ Black/Black RX, ZO and J are my favorites of the Showa Era. Haven't seen the early Heisei Era shows. Absolutely LOVE Den-O, but I cannot stand 'Faiz'. 'W', 'OOO', and 'Fourze' remain my favorites of the Neo-Heisei Era and got me back into Kamen Rider again after dropping it one time back in the day. Others from Neo-Heisei include: 'Drive', 'Ghost', 'Ex-Aid', and 'Build'. And I really dug 'Zero-one' from the Reiwa Era thus far ^^
So what's your first Kamen Rider experience. Lemme know in the comments below ^^
Thanks for your time. ^^
