There should be a consumable hold item exclusive to Palafin, with the effect that if Palafin is your last Pokemon while still in its standard form, it triggers Palafin's Zero to Hero ability without needing to swap out.

Given that you lose your slot of a valuable item, maybe even skipping the swapping out at anypoint right away is balanced

Perhaps. It's just something I thought about because of how shafted Palafin can wind up being if it happens to not have a good opportunity to be sent out to transform, and so is still stuck in its standard form when you're down to your last.
