My grandfather airdropped with the 82nd there. There's currently a D-day channel that does the entire landing over the first 24hr period. 1hr left of this posting.

Today is also my ex-wife's 67th birthday celebration. So, she gets to celebrate D-Day (France) and her birthday, too.

BTW, a little trivia for everyone, there were several D-Days during WW2. Anytime the allies invaded a country or island, the day of the invasion was technically called D-Day. Also, the hour of the invasion was called H-Hour.

yep we got the element of surprise at Normandy thanks to a guy named Alan Turing who broke their Enigma code. We slapped it right back in their faces. :D

I couldn't remember his name (I've seen shows on TV about the Enigma machine) but, you're absolutely right. Without breaking the Enigma code and some keen deceptions on our part, I doubt we'd have been able to plan and execute the Normandy invasion and be as successful as we were.

i really need to see that movie about the code breakers... The Imitation Game, i think it was called, and was quite good.

I'd love to see it. Unfortunately, since Netflix has decided to stop delivering DVDs, I won't be able to. I don't care for streaming so, I won't change my subscription to the streaming option.

That's true but there were several that were put in front of a jury and judge and found guilty of war crimes and sentenced to death or put in prison until they're to old to do any more crimes. But yeah they all need to be put away far away...😠😡💀
