Eurofurence partners up with UAnimals!
The basics:
Eurofurence is the most popular non-US furry convention (eurofurence.org)
UAnimals is a Ukrainian animal rescue/welfare charity (uanimals.org)
Eurofurence have just announced that UAnimals is their chosen charity for EF27, this year's convention.
With how the furry community is reluctant, and even afraid, to bring up the Russia-Ukraine War - or even worse, react with variations of "don't bring drama/politics into this" when the topic is brought up, this is a groundbreaking decision, and I am grateful to every EF administrator involved.
More importantly, Germany (Eurofurence's country) has a large share of putinists and Russian nationalists, and in some places they even grow brave enough to voice their opinions publicly. The choice of a Ukraine humanitarian relief charity is a major slap on their face and a victory for the much larger pro-Ukraine, pro-Europe, pro-democracy group in Germany and other countries.
What does this mean to you? Obviously try to attend this year's Eurofurence if you're able - 3-7 September 2023. This year both the dates and the pricing are on the uncomfortable side, but now that there's an additional reason to go, I, at least, will do my best to attend.
This post is probably a good place to mention that I'm looking for someone to split the accommodation costs with. I'm going to find a place far away from the convention hall to avoid the astronomical prices of convention-suggested hotels - I'm not a fursuiter and can move freely around the city using public transport. Send me a note and we can try to figure something out.
