Elon Musk is so rich that he was able to buy Twitter but could not pay off his debts..

he was only "rich" because he repeatedly stole others ideas/credit, overinflated, and lied about what his company's could do, so they were evaluated way higher than they should have been -_-. it is likely with how much/fast his companies are losing value/money he is not very far off going bankrupt (basically just a matter of time like all other scam artists). and as they say, the bigger they are the harder they fall.

This, like so many terrible ideas born out of paper thin ego, has been laughably pathetic since the get-go. Free speech? Sure, for the radicalized right. Facts and data? Nope! He fired a Sr. Engineer for reporting data that Elon didn't like. This 'data harvesting' bullshit? Utter fabrication. Elon is DESPERATELY trying to recoup even a tiny sliver of the 50% drop in value the company has had since he took it over. Notice that if you're paying the monthly fee for 'verification', you literally get 10 times the count as 'unverified' accounts? There's also a rather sharp idea going around this is all to do with Elon's "trimming the fat" by way of trying to migrate the entire ecosystem to a new host that he might get better rates with. Of course he left it to the last fucking minute, so on 6/30, when the current contract expired, he instituted all these bullshit things (must have an account, no more pointing to Twitter for content, halting account access for "accessing" 600 tweets a day (which includes just liking it and forwarding it without actually going into the tweet) because he's desperately trying to cut down on the hosting costs for people still using the site while he tries to find that mystical new hosting solution.

In less than a year he took a USD20bil company and has driven it to the brink again and again and again of failure. This time, though, with more and more people being done with his shit, this might actually be the real start of the end of it.

I don't have one up yet. I've been apprehensive about juggling too many sites at once but it may be necessary now

that's understandable. it's never fun to juggle around too many accounts, but yeah twitter isn't exactly in the best shape isn't it?

it did take me a while to get the hang of mastodon, but it's been a much better experience overall after that

Maybe create a Telegram channel for news, updates and openings?

If it is true all this limitations Musk announced today are indeed to counterattack an emergency, but it would be one of the most stupid emergencies I've ever seen, there are rumors that Twitter is DDOS itself right now, no outside attack, but some errors in the code that enable a self-DDOS, as written this is only a rumor, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is true with new Musk Twitter

It might get dumber. The rumor I saw was that Twitter decided not to renew a billion USD hosting contract, and was “behind schedule” migrating to a (presumably cheaper) replacement for that capacity.

Musk had to limit certain actions for users who aren't verified and reasoned it with an "emergency". It seems the emergency indeed exists, but it is Musk's fault. There is an error in the code that makes Twitter DDOSing itself and there is the fact that Twitter’s cloud contract with Google ran out. Seems Twitter was unable to move its infrastructure off of Google fast enough. Todays outages are the end result. So Musk is to blame for all this because he is money greedy and because he fired to much people.
