- The time Musk threatened to buy Twitter
- The time he actually bought Twitter
- The time he fired half the company with no noticeable reduction in functionality
- The time he started charging money for verification; imagine the horror: paying money for something you use!

You know how I know a bunch of you are addicts? Because you lost on-demand access to the stupid bird app for most of a day and a bunch of you lost your god damned minds like a crack head who can't find their stash!

Incidentally: that "600 thread limit"? That's enough for you to view a new inane brain-fart from someone you don't know every 1.6 minutes of your waking day assuming you do nothing else with your entire day of your finite time on this blue death marble between cradle and grave.

Twitter was a trash site and blight on the human collective IQ long before Elon Musk purchased it. I DO hope it dies in fire... but this probably won't do it. Incidentally: you WILL be measurably happier if you do actually STOP using it... Ditto for Tik'Tok and every other dopamine-junkie service.

It's a shame it still has the clout it does since people do have their jobs on it. Journalists, artists, researchers, even activists use it to try and get the word out. This change does make them suffer just because it's still the biggest game in town.

This is why you need to diversify your platforms.

Nah, not sitting on the site all day. More they publish the articles and then link them onto Twitter to get the word out faster. It's a fast and easy way to get a lot of eyeballs on news articles, especially for independent journalism that isn't tied to a media corp.

Yeah, I just hope the few good parts of Twitter can find a place elsewhere that they can thrive in. Chad_loader was a great account for activist material and even helped ID a lot of the capital rioters with his footage. Too bad his account got banned by Elon at the behest of the far right sphere on the site.

about a year ago, I would be laughing with you, but now I'm ironically one of those twitter addicts. My main problems are that one of their programs apparently causes the site to count more tweets towards the daily view limit (such as all replies to a tweet being counted even if you don't look at all of them), it went into effect around the same time as FA's new rules, and many of us didn't know it was due to a new rule until several hours after we hit the limit. I did get a chuckle when some people in the chat on one of the down detector sites started using it as a makeshift social media site.

When did they say the limit is now 600 threads per day? Last update to the limit I heard was 1000 views per day (and I'm guessing 10,000 for verified accounts), with the original limit being 600 views, and that didn't just count the tweets you clicked on, but several tweets down the page, and it counted again if you were to change your search field from "most popular" to "latest" or narrow it down to just people you follow. If the limit is now based on threads, that's great. Also, several of the verified accounts were complaining that the limit made it so fewer people could see their tweets, similar to the complaints from the companies who were advertising on twitter.

600 is just the number someone quoted me and then when I pointed out that was still a lot I was told "you don't understand Twitter!" and... clearly; I don't, because I cannot imagine a single reason why I'd want to use it.
1000 and 10,000 changes my maths slightly; as that's a new tweet-thread every ~58 and ~5.76 seconds respectively.

still, is it tweets or tweet threads? To put this in perspective, if FA were to implement this rule, it would either be you can look at only so many pictures and stories per day (threads), or it would also count each comment and each paragraph (tweets, the paragraphs bit representing the character limits per tweet)

Based upon the people I've talked to, it SEEMS to be threads; but again, I don't particularly know given I have zero use for or desire to interact with the site... I've been saying since he bought it that the best thing for humanity that Elon could have done was walk into Twitter's server room with a Jerry-can and a road flare.
