AI or not AI ?š¤
Hi! Sometimes people ask me on Twitter if I draw myself or use AI. I don't really care about such questions and the general opinion of people on this score.
But I am interested in the opinion of people who take YCH/commissions from me. I want to make sure they know they're getting "hand art"
So the answer is no, I don't use AI
I've been drawing for about 5 years, almost every day for several hours (except only when I'm sick or just tired). I draw in Photoshop, sometimes I use 3D, photobash and texture brushes. In all this time, I have never done Speed Painting. It takes time. And now there is a lot of such content, a lot of cool artists show their Speed Painting. I just didn't see the point in my Speed Painting, would anyone be interested in following me
But nevertheless I decided to show my drawing process Ń:
You can watch Speed Painting and "step by step" on my Boosty (it's free!). It might have been worth taking YCH for Speed Painting, but all my ych are no longer at the sketching stage
Maybe this is not my last Speed Painting, maybe I will continue to do them or maybe arrange a stream? Is anyone interested in this?
If you still have questions about drawing, Speed Painting or maybe learning, then I will try to answer them Ń:

Keep up the amazing work!
You have lovely art and are very skilled in the beauty that you create. I appreciate that you create it entirely yourself without the assistance of AI. It's wonderful that you have video to display some of your process too! I will look at that and be in awe, I'm sure.
Ultimately though, I am sorry if I asked you and am terribly, terribly sorry if I caused any unease.
But yeah, the topic/subject of AI/NFT is a slippery slope as best for artists all around the world.
I am glad that you will be interested to see how I draw
And thank you!! ā¤
there are even some US court cases going on that are looking to set the present that AI art cannot be copyrighted - because copyrights belong to people, not to AI.
It's horrible that someone would exploit AI to make a quick cash grab with no effort whatsoever; I assume this would be the case and people already experience it to ask such questions, or themselves are guilty.
You took it very wholesome which is someone I admire from you
The main thing is to know whether the customers, the people who commission your work, are prepared to believe that you're telling the truth and that they're going to pay a human being who does things by hand, or someone who uses an AI.
That's the real question... You haven't done anything wrong, whether you do it by hand or with an AI.
That's the business of those who buy a work from you.
So I'd say, keep on doing what you're doing, get better at it if you can and if you want to, and I'd be very interested in seeing you draw, either on video or in a stream.
I hope my opinion has helped you a little^^
(ps: on rereading, because I'm French and I use a translator, I realise that I'm implying that you're using an A.I. and that's clearly not my intention. I wanted to clarify that^^)
As long as it's in keeping with yourself, that's the most important thing.
I hope your community can continue to follow you ā„
As for AI itself, I'm just sad that there's so many people out there that believe AI is stealing art by analysing it, whereas in reality humans "steal" all the time.
The magic, the feeling that each artist puts into his creations can never be replaced by a program.
I never did think of your work as AI, though, because AI art has been around for a lot less time, especially with how good it is by now.
I used AI for one reason....to get ideas for my own art down the line. I do not like how AI "steals" art data from artists, but I am sure there ARE artists that would gladly let AI borrow some of their works to help out artists that need a reference or two. Or something of that sort.
You do not need AI, your art is dang near perfect as it is.
I think it's not worth getting upset everyone has their own way. I took quite a few courses and studied with a mentor, perhaps it gave me such a result. It is very important to have consistency in training, I think this is the way to success Ń:
verses getting computer-generated work that's an amalgamation of stolen property and other artwork complied into a program that melds it together and get it within hours of payment.
Your work is valued because of the effort you put forth into it, and you charge a fair price for that. I'd rather pay an artist like yourself for true art than a thief who made it in their ai program.
Thank you for the work you do. Keep up the wonderful work.
I'm really glad to know that people are willing to wait a week or more. I often worry about time Ń:
AI is however, a tool. In my opinion, it's best use is for referential material.
Lets say, you're blanking on how you want to design some sort of fantasy landscape. Well, this is when you fire up your algorithm, feed the various descriptions of what you'd like to see incorporated and make multiple renders with different themes you may want to include for good measure. Once you're satisfied with that, you yourself, wholly construct from scratch, the fantasy landscape you want to make while using the algorithm renders as INSPIRATION. Artists already use references from real life images and other artworks. But using the AI tool allows you to construct a REFERENCE with the closest IDEA of what YOU'D LIKE TO DRAW, in near the specific aspect and scope you may want it in.
Something I was recently thinking about AI is I wish it could look at a character I drew and make a 3D model of it. Then Iād just Tewksbury it if it werenāt prefect.
The latest Photoshop beta has Generative Fill in it. I saw people take a photo of ,say something in the desert southwest and using Generative Fill, have the AI fill in the empty space. Itās mind numbing itās capability.
Speaking of speed painting, Iāve seen peopleās speed paints and they are far surperior to my best coloring method. Iām just jealous. Of course, I do 3D characters, I wonāt need to paint them anymore, I just pick the ones I want to use and put them in the scene.
