Not really a twitter user myself, but I suppose part of the equation is that they had no 'better' alternative to turn to? Not sure since I don't really use social media, but didn't Facebook release something relatively recently?

Probably also some attachment and nostalgia attached to the logo?
Probably seems like a nonsensical downgrade to change it.
Either way, people always throw a tantrum when stuff like this happens, but a good chunk come back

Meta's Threads was released three weeks ago and that did have SOME commentary about people MAYBE moving there but people continued on tweeting as usual. I was pretty certain people didnt want anything to do with meta, to be honest.

Bluesky, has been around for... well, it WAS a twitter project, and became an independent thing once twitter was bought out. So its been around for many months, and its the current thing people are MASS flocking to. And i mean, mass, ive seen more journals and comments about people opening a bluesky the last day than anything else.

The only major thing thats happened to spur todays/yesterdays mass interest to leave twitter is... X. Its very, interesting.

edit: not to say i think people will actually leave twitter. Its all the same drama-llama. Just a lot more intent than ive usually seen.

Threads wasn't even out of the gate and they're already getting sued by the EU for so many violations of the GDPR that it's probably going to be banned altogether.

Not sure if it's current or upcoming, but just heard that Tiktok is allowing text posts or something to try to grab a slice of the Twitter pie. So that could play into it too.
(They also mentioned something called Mastodon(?) but not sure what that is).

In relation to IonOtter's comment, they'd probably argue Tiktok is also got controversy around it though xD

It may be that with the change of logo to an X, people think that there is no turning back and they will only leave to get away from their nonsense.

Even so, being a Twitter user, I have noticed that people leave because of the accumulation of nonsense that they are doing and they see that it is not worth being there.

In my case, I stay until the end, because I like the page and it gave me a lot of joy, so regardless of what happens, it would have been a pleasure ^^

Furries are creatures of habitual comfort, and they don't like change. Or rather, they don't like change that *they* did not originate. 99.999% of the furry community has way too much shit on their plate to be screwing around with changing important things in their lives, and socializing is the very lifeblood of the community.

So to have some dribbling manchild use his parent's blood money to purchase the site so he can host all his scumbag friends, put people through a lot of stress. But like I said, they don't like change. Especially when so many people have built up a brand for themselves, and Twitter is a major part of that branding.

So with Twitter going away and being replaced by "X", which is already a heavily loaded letter in the English-speaking world, people have decided that there's no value in trying to remain.

My take, is that it's less the function of a logo change, and more of what it represents, that is important. Folks have been starting the process of branching out and exploring other sites ever since the takeover. This change is seen as a larger tangible departure of what the platform stood for, and it's now glaringly, painfully obvious to anyone looking at it that it's no longer a social media platform, it's just a website to cater to one rich dude's ego.

I mean, I wouldnt put much faith in the few loud voices you hear about abandoning the platform. Give it a few months and see what happens. Every time a new fur site comes out everyone proclaims they're going to leave FA but they always come back cause what makes a social site viable is people and once you hit a critical mass its REAL hard to uproot the major player.

I'm good at quiting things. Others might not be though..mm.

It would take twitter hard banning furries on mass for twitter to actually die, for the sake of the furry fandom at least. And even then, people would just re-make accounts.

Yeah it's crazy. I dropped out about the moment he bought the company, as I'm familiar enough with his nonsense to know the place would eventually implode.
