Surveillance capitalism ALWAYS sucks. Quite literally.

Amen. I never did Twitter. Always thought it had some serious issues. Now it's just even worse.

I never meshed deeply with Twitter, didn't have it installed to anything and never had any notifications from it, it was just a website I'd go to once every week or so to see an obscure video game dev or environmental rescue org's latest news, I've never uploaded to it or used it as a journal.
Bluesky, I wonder what they've changed about Twitter other than the ownership. Twitter didn't have image galleries, and the only way I saw to browse uploaders' submissions was by scrolling down through their automatically extending newest-to-oldest timeline page, which didn't save my place and started from the newest again each time I restarted my browser. I took it it was good to upload art to somehow, but very bad to find art on. I hope that Bluesky optimizes the interface better for art enjoyment.

Don't hold your breath. 'Social media' platforms are optimized for 'engagement', not meaningful interaction or archival. Consider the name, "Twitter"; the simultaneous vocalizations of a flock of birds, each making noise to announce its existence to the others, unmindful of the existence of any but the massed audience. I don't believe for a moment that's a coincidence. It's an 'economy of attention', but with the capitalist bent of a stock market.
