August 2023 Check-in
~Milachu's Journal~ Heya there~
Just wanna do another lil check-in. More updates on:
- the state of my commission queue & what I plan to work on
- what I’m thinking of working on
- any other updates
- and let any of you all ask open-ended questions you’d like me to answer.
— Commissions & Plans —
Commissions and other paid work has slowed down a lot for me lately. Instead, I’ve been working on another project I won’t mention for now, but the short version is I have less time than normal to work on art.
I slowed down on drawing due to working on that other project, so I lost a lot of my momentum. To help get myself back into the swing of drawing, I’m focusing on the Glory Hole Stories 3 comic, which now has 14 of the 18 pages completed. I’m also working with Draconix to make a pokemon art pack that we plan on selling. My goal is to finish both of these projects within the next 2 weeks.
Once those two are done, I can turn my attention back to single image commissions and comic commissions. And once the GHS3 comic is done, I can start devoting more time to to Pushing My Buttons comic. I stopped writing for that comic to focus on GHS3. I didn’t intend on GHS3 to take me most of this year to complete. In the future, I’ll try to make sure I have the proper time needed to make something like that blocked off before I start work.
— Ideas —
I want to draw more Buttons (my cat boy character). He’s a very fun character for me, especially since I consider him my sona, even more than Mila herself. I like seeing him be treated a number of ways, like treated as a girl, treated as a toy, and so on. He’s very submissive and I like that. I want to spend some time drawing him a lot and see which kind of Buttons content people enjoy most. This will also work out since I soon plan on leaning into writing more for the SFW comic featuring him (Pushing My Buttons).
— General Updates —
I finished Outer Wilds and its DLC. It’s now easily in my top 10 favorite games. Next up on my list of games is Tunic!
I lost a huge amount of desire to draw recently. I haven’t had a passion for much of anything, actually. I’m still in the middle of that right now, but I’m quickly experimenting to find out how to correct this. I was doing very well just a couple weeks ago, so it’s possible to get back out of this rut. I believe it’s because I had a bit of burnout and stopped doing a lot of things altogether, things like cleaning, consistent showering, drawing, mainly a lot of self-care stuff. I’m now seeing if I can do a bunch of those self-care things to improve my state of mind and find stuff to be passionate about again. I’m doing stuff like cleaning out my car, cleaning my whole living space up, drinking water, going to bed at a more consistent time, and so on. All the small things make a big difference. Next month when I check in again, I’ll read this and remember whether it worked or not.
— Feedback —
If you have any feedback you’d like to give or questions you’d like answered, feel free to ask. Suggestions, technical stuff, how I do certain things, if I’m okay with something, anything.

FA+

1. When you do Pokémon art packs and sell them, how do you avoid the DMCA thing? I just wanna know how that happens sometimes?
2.When you get burned out from art and try to get back into the swing, how do you feel when you try to draw again? For me I get frustrated because it doesn’t look good and give up on the drawing.
3. When you said you wanted to draw Buttons more and made him your sona more than Mila, how do you balance out OCs like how and what to draw them. I made a goat that I love more than my hybrid and planning to do much more with
4.Lasty, how do you have these small goals you achieve when you’re away from art? Like more me besides art I write but it’s like art so art problems are also writing problems, the ideas of it
Those are my questions, hope they aren’t too bad, much love
2. I've rarely been so critical of my own art that I get discouraged and quit. My vice is that I want to enjoy the drawing process, but I can't do that unless I'm in the right mood. Trying to draw when I'm not feeling inspired is grating, and I end up not feeling satisfied. Right now, I believe waiting for the right mood to hit first before doing small things to improve my mood is like trying to play the lottery first before having a job. I could sit around and wait until I feel like it, but what's worked better for me is doing things to improve my mood first, like cleaning and organizing, plan a project to work on in advance, and then do that plan by drawing it. For example, I've planned out most of the comics I've made before drawing them. I know what's going to be in each panel because I wrote it down, and then I just focused on the drawing part after that. Some artists may work differently, but I believe other artists may work similarly too.
3. My mood shifts every 2-6 weeks. I let the current of my mind carry me and then draw what I'm in the mood for, because those are easy and fun little victories, and I need those to keep me inspired and drawing a lot. My characters represent different aspects of me fit neatly into personality archetypes with my different kinks attached to them. Mila is my slutty party girl who likes ball worship, Lantha is my giddy free spirit and fills my desire for big butts on bubbly ladies, Buttons is my sub side who also like girly-boy stuff, and he's also my casual and open-minded side, and Milo is my latent top dom side who likes seeing others get railed.
4. I don't understand the question. I'm not sure if you mean how do I come up with goals when I'm not drawing, how do I achieve goals when I'm not drawing, how I come up with goals in general, or something else. If you mean how I come up with goals in general, such as my drawing ideas, I get inspired by something I see like other art, I get an idea in my head for how my characters would act in that situation, and then I write down that idea to draw for later or I draw it immediately. I have a super long list of ideas for drawings, comics, and animations that no one but me has seen. I look through this list of ideas and think about which ones I feel are most important to me. Then I start laying out a plan for how to complete the next most important project. What counts as completed? What are the steps to complete the project? I break it down into bite-sized pieces so it's easier to manage. I hope this helps. Feel free to ask again if my guess was inaccurate.
Thanks for asking!
