Nope, I’ll keep where I found it anonymous. But it was one of those quotes where I felt like the person who said it.. had no clue just how much of a hard disrespect it was to any artist who hasn’t specifically said they’re having an art block.

I was blown away by it, so I had to save it. I think for a lot of artists, this quote would have something of a visceral reaction.

Yeah no kiddin. A beginner artist or someone early in their career would probably be devestated by this and hang their pencil up. Even experienced artist would probably feel a bit like Julius ceaser and his 43 stab wounds from this

If I got a message like that I'd be like "Daaaaaamn, I gotta get me some new brows, cuz they just got burned off!?". Which is to say id marvel at the spectacle and probably examine the artwork more to make sure im not slackin off too hard.

I guess from the diss culture side, it feels more like

"Yo arts so uninspired I thought you were having art block! Lemme show you some better vibes."

Though honestly I memorialize it cuz it works so well as a sick burn. Its sly, so if you caused an uproar, people could defend it, but clearly "could" have a meaningful sting to it. That's what makes it such an excellent line. Almost like an assassins dig X'D.

Honestly I have been painting for upwards of 11 years now.. and I still don’t know what causes art block.. besides a new game I want to play! The mystery eludes me to this day.

Art block is more a form of executive dysfunction. The ability to start a task is itself a biochemical process, and if it is not working right, it can be difficult to get to work on a drawing or painting.

Not necessarily true, but for the person who’s having art block.. from their perspective if they are uploading an art piece ….they basically think they are uploading complete dog shit. Either because they have to, or perhaps simply to try and get out of the bad funk.

Hell , hearing this even if you are uploading with an Artblock. You’d still feel like shit for being called out. But if you thought you were doing great, and someone says that…. I mean damn. That person basically just said your art is dog shit tier compared to what you normally post, despite you thinking it was pretty good.

...but like said above, it does come off as a roundabout ask for free art. "Hey, you look like you're having trouble, you'll do so much better if you draw MY ideas. No, no need to thank me, I do it out of the goodness of my heart."

My feelings would be hurt, I would think about it for most of the day… and then I would want to dig in and figure out.. if that comment actually had some purpose to it.. like, if it was meant as a disrespectful call out? If it was meant to goad me into giving them free art? Or maybe They were just trying to let me know that I was slacking hard.

Honestly, I’d love to know the answer myself, but I don’t want to start shit on someone else’s submission. But if it was on one of mine, you know I’d be goading for a response! I want to know what’s in the mind of someone who disses that hard.

It's kinda wild how people like that just completely disregard the feelings of the artist themselves. They'll say all sorts of things to try and pull free art from you, and then get upset(sometimes VERY upset) if you call them out on their trashiness or just tell them no. I've seen a ton of interactions like that and this one seems to be exactly one of those people.

AAAAHHHH. I’ve been there as well. In fact, honestly. I swear most people like the low effort shit more than the higher effort stuff.

Like honestly, I have had countless sleepless nights… wondering if trying to get better is truly worth it versus simply finding some consistent style and just trying to stick with it best you can. I know for a fact if you want to be popular, it’s the latter.
