lei-lani and I were just hitting our beds and saw how windy and lightningy it was getting and something told me the power would go out so I told Lani lets leave the smartphones on tonight just in case I gotta call the power people. She agreed and we got some candles and flashlights bedside.
so about 11:59 PM Thursday night..... BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
gave the same sound as as Amber Alert but i think we both knew this was no fucking Amber Alert... i was expecting "flood watch" "flood warning" "severe thunderstorm warning" yadda yadda....
NEWP!!!!!!!!
"TORNADO WARNING! Seek shelter immediately within your basement or cellar, or a confined space in the interior of your house......"
Well we werent panicked yet because we looked outside and didnt really see anything.... but needless to say we thought well ...better safe than sorry and took the cats toward the basement. My hand gets on the light switch and ZAP....power goes out. So we're fumbling int he dark now with three cats and i guess thank god there was still some moonlight because we got the candles/flashlights finally and headed downstairs....
meanwhile... just about 20 blocks away from us:
i think its amazing first off because we were THAT fucking close to it... on its trajectory, had it kept going.... we were gonna get hit and a lot of people would get hurt. it was only on the ground about 3 minutes and fizzled out... (cuz Cleveland's not FLAT)
But still kinda scary. We ended up losing power from midnight to about 5:00 PM Friday but theres still folks in our area not getting power for days.... im sad to say.
But it did make me create a cool meme for the event:

hehe...i slay me. :D
so yeah tldr;
Tornado hit, we are all good, cats safe, power on. no casualties.

I'm wondering if it would be in poor taste for me to sparkplug a fiction story called The Wacom Of Lei'Lani Perriere set to the metaphorical tune of Gordon Lightfoot's The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald. I mean, lovely 'Lani's an otter and can handle the water, but tornados are tornados.

cute....
i dunno, Leilani truly loved Lightfoot and i dont want insult the man.

When did that last happen, you ask?
NINETEEN SIXTY-FOUR (1964).
Fifty-nine years and counting.
Hell, there hasn't been a tornado within five miles of my house since 1997, and the last time one came within three miles was my second day of Kindergarten -- IN NINETEEN EIGHTY-NINE (1989).
but nope, no global warming, its all a myth. =P
Good thing you guys are okay.
I remember how I dodged a bullet with one before as well. We had one that went down 2 blocks from where I worked, and ontop of that the thing went over my house, but it was in the sky by this point. Niece caught footage of it, I'm pretty pissed off actually that she didn't get to shelter, cause had that still been on the ground she could've been hurt or worse.
i know just where it stopped too... we live in the heights area of Cleveland so it couldnt take the Carnegie Road hill... :D thats what killed it off... plus F1 twister, didnt have too much in it... again, we lucky. :D

Big mistake.
I started going down the steps, and she decided that wasn't happening. She plunged her claws into my shoulder and tried to get out. I had to grab her by the scruff and peel her off my back. The poor baby's eyes were bugging out of her head, but I had no choice. It was that or surgery.
Got her down to the floor, closed the door just in time for the hail to start hammering.
