A better example would be what just happened a few days ago (tornado outbreak in COASTAL MICHIGAN AND COASTAL OHIO) not waking people up. Even the most intense outbreaks of the past weren't able to threaten the cities right on the shores of Lakes Erie and St. Clair. Detroit, Toledo and Cleveland aren't used to this, unlike cities further inland like Jackson, Fort Wayne and Columbus.

This should be a wake-up call for people like you and me, Riff. We're not quite as safe as we thought we were. At least you guys get one every now and then... except for the Grosse Pointes, it's been almost SIXTY YEARS since the innermost part of the north and northeastern Metro Detroit area saw a tornado (the Grosse Pointes have gone 26 years, so at least they can remember the last time it happened).

already told Leilani next time we get a tornado warning, we grab the cats and go immediately to the basement and wait it out.... and hope not much damage occurs.

I don't know that it's really so fucked up. Language and communication evolve, and teh interwebs have been a part of that. It seems natural to me.

He also happens to be an old right wing crank with a remarkably out of touch sense of humor though, so that may have had something to do with it as well...

There is a story behind this. When they were developing the early TTY printers, they couldn't change cases readily. Studies showed that all lower-case was easier to read and understand.

so, it was decided to make the world standard all lower-case.
