So, our twatface landlady decided to drop a bomb on us. A week or so ago we ended up with a lease on the door and her urgently trying to call us, she was trying to force us to sign said lease which would have locked us in till next september.
She flipped out on us cause we were supposed to sign a new lease in Feburary, and I don't yell, I seriously don't, but I snapped at her telling her that it isn't OUR job to make sure this shit is done and it's not our job to chase her down for said lease. She was not happy.
She wanted to up our rent to 1650 too.
So we decided to make that bitch wait until the next day when we called the rental board to ask if they're allowed to do that to which they're not.
We then called her and told her what we learned and that she has to give us 3 months notice before she ups the rent etc, she was NOT happy, she tried arguing with us etc.
So the next day, another notice shows up, an official notice saying that until January we are month to month, and if we wanna renew our lease in January, rent will be 1850. SHE UPPED RENT THAT MUCH BECAUSE WE CALLED HER OUT ON HER ILLEGAL BITCH ACTIVITY.
So we're gunna be moving asap as soon as we can find a place, then I'm going be dragging this woman through the mud, her and this building. I'm so pissed off right now. Three fucking years we've been here, no complaints and this is how she treats us.
So anyone in Alberta need a pair of roommates? LOL We're quiet non partiers who toke every so often but we're not loud xD

Also landlords were getting around the rent increase cap by finding reasons to kick people out, like claiming they were going to move their mother into the place instead of renting it out, and then when no one was living in it they could set the rent to whatever they wanted cause the cap only applied while someone was living in it.
but gosh yeah i feel that. we moved into our townhouse rental in 2020 when it was 1100 and they'll for sure be jacking it to 1500 during our next lease renewal which will 100% price us out. it's been hella sucky and stressful. our area is kinda getting that way too and we're rural. landlords want a salary of 3x rent and it's like yo?? do you think i'd be renting if i could afford that??? lmao

my boyfriend had a similar experience this year because he was evicted from his rental up in canada after 10 years of living there, for no reason too.. now he's forced to live in a tiny trailer because it's impossibly hard to get an affordable spot to live on vancouver island ;//

I'm not sure if Zillow or Apartments dot com work in your areas up there but hopefully you two can find something that fits your needs.
