Hello again, to whoever reads these. I hope you all had a good Halloween, or at least not a bad one. October was a bit of a strange month for me, with some ups and downs, but ultimately I suppose I really cannot complain about much.
So, how did this last month go for me in writing? Good, though not as good as it could have been, all things considered. While my week from the 9th to the 15th was pretty busy work wise, like I said in my last journal entry, after that... My work schedule has actually been so free that I'm basically getting too few hours. This is not me about to ask for money or fishing for pity though, as my life is in a good enough position that it's just going to squeeze my disposable income budget a bit, and not actually be a problem. So I probably could have diverted more of that time to writing, but mostly I spent a lot of my time in October relaxing.
So, for my story uploads first I had my attempt at writing a CYOA, Simona's special experiment, which has some curious results to it in my opinion. At the time of this writing, it technically it has 18 total favorites, but that's divided between 7 uploads with some people giving multiple parts a favorite, so I wouldn't really count it as 18. To be specific, after checking the favorites on all of the entries, only 5 different people left favorites, so that's the number I would consider to be the real one. 5 is the average amount of favorites I usually get on my uploads, so it pretty much did perfectly average. That has the potential at least to be promising I think; since if I could reach my average amount of popularity on it with my first attempt, then hypothetically if I get better at it, later entries could draw in more attention... On the other hand, that story took pretty much twice the effort to write as my other stories usually do; while that doesn't mean I expected it to draw twice the amount of attention, it does mean that it makes me feel a little hesitant about writing more in the future, since I know very well that it was a very small CYOA, and most readers looking for a CYOA are probably expecting more than just four endings. Thus I would expect that in order for me to write the kind of CYOA that would really draw in more attention, I would have to spend even more time and effort on it, which at least at this time, is not something I feel like doing.
Second I had my little cheat story, Fun times with(out) an old friend, which I had already finished writing months ago. As what I'm pretty sure is my shortest story I've uploaded onto the site, it was curious to me to see how it would be received, too. Would it being more bite sized draw in more people looking for a quick read to fap to, or would it alienate my normal audience? Well it looks like it did more of the latter, as it has performed below average with only 3 favorites at the time of this writing. It's alright though; as usual, a smaller number of favorites doesn't really bother me. In fact, it kind of has a reassurance to it, that the longer length I'm more naturally inclined to also resonates more with my audience. Though, I found it a little nice as a change of pace, having been easier to write than my other stories I've written through the past few months, so I wouldn't say I'll never write a story that short again.
Lastly, pre-written in the middle of the month and released right before the end of the month, I had A witch's Halloween trick, which has performed very nicely with an above average 8 favorites at the time of this writing. I know it probably drew in some more attention than usual with the holiday theming, which alone could account for the extra favorites. I find that nice and promising then, as I've been thinking for a good while that I would like to pre-write stories centered around certain events, then upload them at those times. Stories themed for Halloween, Christmas, No Nut November, (or rather, anti No Nut November, =P) and joke stories for April Fools are all things I've been wanting to make a try at, and I might even consider more holidays if there's any that people would like to suggest. Though, there's only so many that I could realistically fit in a year, so the list would probably stay fairly limited in the end regardless.
Well then, a decent October, so how do I expect November to go for me? Well, the last few days I have been stalled on writing because of a bit of a crisis of faith on my part. By which I mean actual religious faith, not as a metaphor for my passion to write or something like that. I'd rather not get into the details of it more than that, but I hope that by tomorrow I can get my motivation and dedication back and resume my writing momentum on my current project in progress. That being another requested story for my long standing repeat requester, destiny667. Because I delayed it to write a second personal story in a row, (which destiny667 was alright with after I discussed it with them in private,) my intention is to do another requested story next after that, then resume back to my usual back and forth schedule. If I can indeed get my writing momentum back up, then I feel reasonably confident that I should get those two requested stories uploaded during November, as it's looking like my work schedule will continue to be very light for the time being. After that for my next personal story I was planning to pre-write the Christmas themed sequel to A witch's Halloween trick, aiming to upload that probably a couple days before Christmas. Of course, that's just the hope, and we'll just have to see if that all pans out.
Alright, that's my rambling for this month done. If you read through this whole thing, then thank you, and I hope you have a nice day and a good November. Even if you didn't read through it, I hope you have a nice day and a good November anyway. =)
