Ooo-Da-Lolly!

In case you didn't know, today is the 50th anniversary of the release of Disney's Robin Hood. I saw it first-run in the theater at age nine, and it left a huge impression on me, as I'm sure it did on a lot of us. I daresay that Furry Fandom as a whole wouldn't be quite the thing it is today without it. Happy birthday, oh vulpine Prince of Thieves!

It's sometimes referred to as the "suck fairy", as in "I loved this book as a kid but the suck fairy got at it and now it's unreadable." Related are things like the "sexism fairy" or "racism fairy" where you didn't notice the problems back then but you do now.
(This is also why you will sometimes hear that the golden age of SciFi is 12: You're old enough to get it but not old enough to tell just how bad a lot of it is.)
You just happened to reliably spot one of the common problems earlier than most. (Possibly made worse if your source of SF was a bit behind the times and didn't have the stuff from the new wave.)
Happy 50th Robin, Marian, and all the rest. May you continue to corrupt young minds for many years to come.
