Stolen Valor At The Store

I was at my bookstore today and while I was waiting in line this guy with his wife was telling the cashier that he was a Vietnam Air Force vet and he was flying planes and dropping bombs on Vietnam. The cashier, touched by his story asked what rank he was. He said, Staff Sergeant. He also said that he bombed Vietnam with the Blackbird. with My dad is an Air Force vet (never saw combat) but he was a mechanic and I remember when I was a kid I asked him if he flew any planes. He told me no because he wasn’t an officer and you need to be an officer to fly planes. I called my dad and told him about it. He told me he was full of shit because the blackbird was used as a spy plane and you have to be an officer to fly. He said if he was there he would’ve confronted him. Unfortunately he got a discount because he claimed he lost his VA card. Scum of the Earth.

Yup. My dad spent over 20 years in the Air Force and he never uses store discounts because he didn’t join for that reason.

that's lame for the store to not do background checks

Well, you have a veteran’s ID card to say you’re a veteran and they check that. But I live in the same city with the air base and I guess some stores just don’t question it. It’s shitty to lie about something like that only for a 20% discount. Even though my dad didn’t see combat, he had friends that had. My dad missed so much out of my life because he was working in the military. He missed my talent show, school events, my grandfather passing away while we were in Thailand and holidays. It makes me angry.
