Here I go again with buying more music making stuff...
So I broke down and am trying once again to actually make music (or at least noise) with some synthy stuff. The price of all vintage stuff is getting silly (plus maintenance/capacitor aging issues) so I'm going for some of the new Behringer clones.
I also got a cheap MIDI controller, a Samson Carbon 49, so I don't have to tether myself to the PC to route USB MIDI devices together.
First up is the WASP Deluxe synth module, based upon the mid-late 70's British synth of the same name. Very basic, good to (hopefully!) learn on.
Today I got the second module, a Solina String Ensemble<3 The availability of which is what poked me into giving all this another try. It sounds GLORIOUS with the chorus and phaser onboard effects.
I also ordered a Zoom MS-70CDR multi-effects pedal which arrived today also, but I don't yet have the instrument cables to connect everything together.
I'm also very tempted to get the Behringer CAT (clone of the Octave The Cat) too, or maybe (maybe also...sigh) a K2 (their clone of the Korg MS-20) - I want to stick with cheap stuff and not pay too much for yet another exercise in futility where it sits in closet for 2-3 years and I end up taking a massive loss just selling it off.
If I ever want to go into poly, the Pro-800 (clone of the Prophet 600) seems to be quite nice, or there's those two new little dinky ones based on the Prophet VS and the JP8000, but those won't be available for months.
Hopefully I don't end up buying too much again, and regretting it.

Would a Proteus/2 and a Yamaha DX7 be good additions?

DX7's are getting pricey and they are also old - early-mid 80s, their capacitors would need to be replaced soon if not already, and their membrane buttons are prone to failure from years of use/abuse. Also never really could wrap my head around FM synthesis - I am very much a beginner which is why I went with the WASP Deluxe - its very, very simple. Not sure about the other. I would prefer stuff that sounds "artificial" and not just samples of real instruments/etc.

Proteus/2 was very popular. Released in 1990 as a sequel to Proteus/1, Proteus/2 uses orchestral instruments and many 90s projects used it, due to cheap cost and easy use by many composers around the world.

Looks kinda large for a desktop type thing, is why I like the little Behringer modules, can set up on my computer desk and be on that as well as play around with musicmaking.
