One Year on FA
General
Well I've been on the site for one year now, during that time I uploaded roughly five drawings a week although some of those were from backlogs or sketches. Uploading and interacting with people on here hasn't been much of a social success, but some people are nice and it's been good to get a bit more feedback on my art than just posting things to a few discord servers. I do have a few thoughts on a variety of related subjects but I suppose I'll break them down in case anyone actually reads this.
Uploads - I don't upload even a fraction of the art I make, I'm not sure if I should upload more or less. For what it's worth there's some odd 1200 scans in my folder and less than 300 of them were uploaded here, and for each of those scans there are probably 4-5 drawings I did not feel like scanning. On top of that I do writing, and have been learning both digital art with a tablet and blender on the side but have uploaded almost none of those here. Not really sure what to keep up with but I'll keep up with the current pace of traditional art for now.
Improvement - As usual I don't think I've been improving as much as I should and keep meaning to put more time into my art. I'm not sure how well my work is for some one trying out art as a hobby for three years now with no classes or training. It's still fun to make things at least.
Requests - Yes, I still take and do these but I'm increasing wondering if there are people who just scrape upload titles for the mention of requests and then spam artists with mails. I only suspect this due to having a fair few requests come in that don't really fit what I do from people who sometimes don't even know I do traditional art. It always makes me wonder how? Like how did they come to the point of asking me for art without ever actually seeing any of my art..?
Commissions - No, I'll do free art work and even trades but I have a full time job and don't need the stress of obligation that taking money for my work would give me.
Social aspects - I can be reached on discord but you will have to ask for that in a note. I'm still interested in meeting new people and do enjoy discussions about art among other things, even the occasional rp, but due to work I'm often not around compared to others and this can make things hard for me.
Not really sure what to close out with.. oh well.

FA+

Here's to many more years on FA!
Unfortunately, due to the themes of what you often post, you're not likely to see a large amount of people flocking to it. I'm in the same boat, as are others in this particular niche. It's just the nature of it is all, but it's understandable. Then again, in only one year, you've already got more people watching you than I've gotten in 3. So there's that.
I agree about the requests thing to a point. There are a lot of people that just look for a free handout. Gotten a few of those myself. However, I don't hold it against people that don't comment, favorite, or watch my own content. Some like it, but don't want to have it visible to others that they like it, which is again an understandable view. Or they're just lazy, like me. I don't tend to favorite on stuff, and as I see your art in other places, I will usually comment there instead of here.
I do think that you should open yourself to commissions. I think you'd get quite a few people willing to pay you a few bucks for a sketch. Maybe just have it as a tip jar, a 'pay what you want' style of commission. I think you'd be surprised. But I also understand wanting to avoid the stress that can come along with that kind of thing.
Sorry for going on a bit. Gratz on the one year here, and best of luck for more. Keep doing what you do. It's worth seeing.
I understand that people have reasons for not watching, favoriting and such. It's just confusing to get a request, make a sketch and then have some one not expect it to be traditional or other issues that make it seem like they asked without ever seeing any of my art. It would be like some one getting a request from you and then being surprised it was a story? Not sure if it's easy to explain, anyway it's not upsetting just confusing.
Yeah, that makes sense. I mean, the confusion makes sense. Definitely someone who hasn't looked at anything. Unfortunately quite common. I still get notifications that people are messaging my old RP profiles, all of which have (I DO NOT RP ANYMORE) in big, bold, RED letters at the top of the page. (I only keep them for the old story notes on them).
Happy to hear a request if you have something in mind some time, but I keep my art as a hobby so no commissions.
Getting feedback and interaction on uploads can be hard, I don't think any site or platform lends itself well to a lot of interaction on art uploads, and it seems like someone can put a ton of effort into something and get not much of a response. It can sometimes just be luck, timing, or people forgetting. Try not to take it too hard - in all my time on this site the same thing happens to most artists I see.
I have to say the responses you get to requests sound strange. I really don't understand things people do sometimes - I think it might just be spamming like you said?
Anyway I do see your uploads all the time and really enjoy them, and haven't favourited or commented as much as I wanted to - for me I sometimes don't know what to say that doesn't sound dumb or unhelpful.
I'm quite interested in these themes but can never really get talking to likeminded people and maintain it. I'm in the same boat with the socialising things.
Would be really nice to keep seeing more of what you do, the following and interaction from people comes with time, it just takes a while.
I feel like I should edit the journal slightly though, a lot of people seem to not quite get the part about requests. I'm mostly confused about getting requests from people who seem to have never seen my art. I don't mind but it's always weird to get them a sketch and they are not expecting lineart or traditional pencil and paper.
