Diet Changes
More and more I'm realizing that a lot of my suffering is down to my diet. And in order to feel relatively normal I'm going to have to make further changes. I've already given up soda for the most part. And the few times I've had it since its blocked me up or made me crash. So I'll have to strictly avoid it. Soda was one of the worst things I was consuming on the daily. Damned if I can figure out how people drink multiple energy drinks a day.
Next is giving up most sweets. This is going to be harder. I very much like sweet food, especially if I'm depressed. Sugar is like a drug. Its very hard to kick. And like a drug, in my case it effects my mind. Crashing from it makes me depressed, lethargic. Affects my ability to concentrate, and causes me bad anxiety and mood swings. This is all in tandem with digestion problems it causes. The more messed up my digestive system, the more mental issues I also have. And because of this its detrimental to me getting work done. I don't know how common this is. Would be curious to know if anyone else suffers from these kind of addictions.
My diet now mainly centers around meat, broccoli, and beans. I find that works best for my gut. I have to avoid grains mostly. Have a similar effect on me as sweets do. From what I've heard grain derived products aren't that different from sugar. It's funny looking back, because the American food pyramid has grains at the bottom. But they're one of the worst non-sweet foods we consume on a daily basis.
Oh, dairy too I've mostly had to cut out. Except butter. Butter doesn't bother me. That ones been the hardest cause I love milkshakes.

FA+

(That's my meager attempt at humor.)
Seriously, there is so much to that one word, it's scary. Growing up, we never HAD sodas, or most 'Candies,' and the sugar we consumed was whatever Momma/Others had used (And they didn't have a lot to 'Waste,' so even then it was scarce!) had made for a cake/pie/dessert.
NONE of us were heavy/fat, as children! We were up doing chores before breakfast, out and about all day long, and again before supper had to do more chores. Ergo, we were active, and it showed.
In the Marines, I ate for THREE, yet didn't have any problem with my weight/fitness. I burned off anything I consumed, and then some! (Ah, to be that young/fit again!)
Nowadays? Egads...
My biggest awakening hails from the 'Evil' that is processed foods, and anything 'Factory Meat' is terrifying in its ingredients/hormones/anti-bacterial whatevers.
Being 'Olde' now, I've almost converted right back to my childhood regarding what types of food(s) I make/eat, with the occasional 'Treat' just to reward my gluttony (It is a thing). Lots of health issues that I/Others have (Diabetes, Overweight, Heart, etc..), forced us into eating more wisely. Like you, when I'm out in town, seeing all the sodas and those 'Energy Drinks' kids/young adults consume, just have me smdh, 'cause all of it's going to come back and bite THEM in their butts, if they should live long enough to see middle age/older.
I salute and applaud you for focusing on this topic in your own life, and that you're already noticing some of the more positive effects of eating more carefully/wisely!
I do how ever realize what you eat that can help with your health and reducing intake alone isn't the best course of action.
I simply started with removing fastfoods and intermittent fasting. That was enough to kickstart me losing 80 pounds in two years. Plus just simply only eating out at traditional style ma and pa restaurants was a far better choice health wise, like unfried Greek foods, Indian food, Mediterranean food, etc. it's far better than eating out at olive garden or Mcdonalds. XD I don't try to be too strict on my diet but I do try to avoid GMO and soy included foods since they are filled with low grade slop in it Plus I try to eat foods with lots of spices and vegies to stimulate metabolism and reduce inflammation.
About energy drinks, I love em. X}
I do drink sugar free energy drinks once in a while though, they're just so cozy to wake up to and do have stuff like taurine to help with focus plus convenient since tea can be a whole ritual in it's self.
I've had doctors tell me to stop eating fruit, tomatoes, peas and corn because of the sugar content. A registered nutritionist said that's nonsense; otherwise I'd be living on celery and lettuce.
Though once you get off the excess sugar, you realize just how much of the real taste of the food is masked by oversaturation.
You'll generally feel pretty good cutting almost all sugar and carbs. Lean meat and veggies most of the time, learn to love grilling and using spices and you'll have more ability to resist all the tasty carbs that taste great but then you feel like crap later.
